lets get straight down to brass taxes here! If a big games company were to buy the rights to an idea that you have for a game (that includes all the details, story etc), how much money would you expect to recieve? I mean, in the film Industry they have a Writters Guild and this guild upholds the policy that big directors/producers cannot buy a script from you for less then £30,000.

Does anyone know of any stories of people like us on TGC who have sold ideas to big Developers?

there's a lot to be said for unspeakable acts...

Developers don't have any Guilds, Unions, etc..
Effectively a publisher especially a big one will try to rip you off for the least cost to them.

Same goes for working conditions and such. Until there is some form of protection, no matter if your inside or outside of the industry provided your doing business with the publishers/developers then you'll be treated to how the law on working conditions and fair trade work. (in other words, don't expect a lowest price)

Developers and Publishers will NO LONGER take ideas from 3rd parties, and your actually not allowed to make suggestions or such in forums anymore.. because most companies end up getting sued because someone felt their idea was used without permission or compensation.

The only way for your idea to be heard is to either join a current development team, OR have them sign up your team to underwrite development costs.

Companies don't buy ideas; Ideas are a dime a dozzen, making them is costs money and time.

If a company really liked your idea, they'd just copy it and change it slightly anyway.

I was working for a real game developer at one point, and got introduced to the online games team content leader. We chatted back and forth for weeks, and he was open to my idea. That is pretty much the only way to get in, I think. You already have to be in the company--- even if it's just doing QA.

unless you sign a contract the points out any royalties etc that you may receive, you shall get nothing, purely because you sold the rights, and ths have no claim over the idea anymore

but surely you can't possibly sell anything without recieving money. There's usually two sides to a transaction.
