Hey, i was just wondering how often are mods chosen? And by who?

Video games…they take you places unreachable, unfeasible. Putting you in the book...putting you in the movie...putting you in a world, that before could only be imagined. expage.com/piratesmainpage.

Whenever Rich feels the community's grown beyond the current capability of the mods as they stand.

Which, IMO, wont be for a long while now, thanks to the newbie slapping and bigger and badder powers bestowed upon us

Jess.

but Mods are never chosen. They were born into their positions and will reign terror over all until the DBP community comes crashing to the ground in the year 2057.

also, when are the current mods not mods anymore? Do they all go at once and a new batch is brought in, or little by little as theyre replaced?

I don't think they're replaced...And why were some of them even chosen? Why were any of them chosen? Did they bribe Rich or something? or are they just emmensly lucky?

They're not replaced per se, but they may be de-modded if they've just disappeared from the community. I haven't seen Puffy around in a year and a half, that's why he's no longer a mod. Others, like indi, visit far less than they used to and a new mod might be instated in place of them, but they still drop by enough that their mod status is left alive.

I think we've probably got twenty or so in total, and with all the tools we have, I think that'd be enough to handle a community half again as large/active as this one. If it ever grows larger I imagine Rich will recruit some new mods

Is your avatar a dog? or a dragon? or is it a gryphon? And why were you current mods chosen, whent there were at least 200 other people on the forums?

I don't wanna sound too up myself in saying this, but it is actually the reason why I ( and others after me ) were chosen;

I was nominated because I'd been recognized for my maturity and helpfulness around the forum.

The next batch of mod recruits after I was modded came in the form of Rich requesting people to say who they think would be good.

The people voted, and those people who got the most votes were modded.

Worked out really well, too

Jess.

Search "mod" on general talk forum. Spot a pattern?

Facts are meaningless.
You could use facts to prove anything that's even remotely true.

I was made a mod because of my unique time zone, however, I hear Jess was modded in return for performing various sexual favours. It just goes to show that there are many reasons that you may be made a mod for.

I think in addition to mods, this forum should have ninjas, so that if users start abusing, the ninjas (who shall remain anonymous of course) cut their throats and thus reduce spamming to a minimum.

I think Rich thought Jess was a girl. Hence the fact he got modded so quickly. j/k

The secrets to becoming a mod:

1. Don't ask how to become a mod.
2. Be useful, and knowledgable
3. Don't ask how to become a mod.
4. Don't ask how to become a mod.

Personally I'm too busy being behind in my projects to be a mod.

Hehe, people must hate hearing that - 'never ask to be a mod', like if they'd like to be a mod how are they supposed to ask?

Well for the benefit of potential mods everywhere, here's how it breaks down...

If you have to ask, then there's no chance in hell.

There's plenty mods now to keep this place neat and tidy, so it's anyones guess when there would be more modding - but I think all of the mods would agree that there's really no point getting hopes raised unless you've been here a good while and have a good community attitude - at the end of the day it's all downto Rich, and I doubt he pays any attention to posts like this, he's more likely to notice something cool or helpful that you do.

You shouldn't need to ask to be a mod. People who are mod worthy are either nominated by others or are picked out as mod material.

Facts are meaningless.

In truth we all volunteered for the position when Rich was recruiting, it's not like we didn't want it. But asking when he's not recruiting, especially repeatedly, borders on nagging, and annoying the mods or admin isn't a good first step .

Nothing against you Gil as if I remember properly this is your first thread on the subject

No, I really am so far behind with everything I have no time to breathe anymore.

My point is, to be a mod you have to be willing to put time aside. Most of the mods here are doing exactly that, and making this Forum a better place.

I would wager that the ones who ask after being a member for only a short while would have a power-mad frenzy, and then get bored after a month. And that is why those that ask usually don't get
