Here is the latest ill-informed BBC press article about the Elgin Marbles.

As usual with the media, kindly ignore their ignorant and misconceived "commentary" on English law. Every single comment they make is wrong.
It is for the Trustees of the Elgin estate, applying the will of Lord Elgin and the trust set up thereby, to determine to whom the Marbles shall be lent. The British Museum and indeed Lord Goldsmith (merely the Attorney General - big fat hairy deal) are utterly and completely irrelevant. They can merrily decide that the Marbles should be returned to Greece. Yet they do not have ownership of the Marbles. So it matters not what they decide. They could no more validly and legally decide to transfer ownership of the Marbles to Greece anymore than I could, for example, choose to give ownership of Rich Davey's house to RobK.
Nemo dat quod non habet.
The media, in its usual breathless incompetence, makes me sick. To think they fill the minds of people with such crap.

PS: Oh, and THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS BRITISH LAW. Can the BBC get NOTHING right? There is the law of England and Wales. There is the law of Scotland. There is the law of Northern Ireland. British law does not exist. UK law does not exist.
