Theif 3D - My First Game

This is my first real attempt at a game in DB so bare with me even though it looks pretty bad! I can only get better. The game allows you to control a remote controlled vehicle around a series of locations to try and steal the diamond. However, you have to avoid the laser beams and not set off the alarm or it is game over.

Currently Features
1 stage, Warehouse level 1
Remote control mechanics
Laser beam collision detection
Fully custom made level editor

Will Feature
Half a dozen different locations and lots of levels
Moving laser beams, search lights and enemies
Nicer presentation and graphics
and possibly multiple vehicles/upgrades and multiplayer. Not sure yet.

I am not ready to realease the alpha demo version yet, so i'll give it a few more days of work before I ask some of you to test it. But here are some early screenshots.

http://www.ThiefGame.tk - Screenshot link at bottom!

I would love feedback and suggestions - this is my first game so any ideas are greatly appriciated.

Thanks,
Dave

looks good .

Video games…they take you places unreachable, unfeasible. Putting you in the book...putting you in the movie...putting you in a world, that before could only be imagined. expage.com/piratesmainpage.

I'd go for the old favourites as far as stealing.

Bank
Museum
POW camp (get the prisoners !)
Government HQ (get the documents)

Cant think of any others yet, but does look like a nice project there mate !

you should add a movie in the middle of game somewhere where you get caught and you gotta shake the cops

Looks interesting..
Definately a neat concept.

If you make each area large enough then you don't have to make that many levels. Personally I think this game would do better if you make it like Metal Gear Solid.

Yeah it seems out there and remote right now but hear me out on this. Effectively make the entire games one big level, you could have security guards, Laser beams, etc.

I mean there's no need for 'bosses' as such, but you could more just have an area where you sneaking around trying to avoid simple traps and guards; then you think up some truely incidious trap for the "Boss" area.

Have some areas with dampening fields so you can't go in and keep control, and others with Hot / Cold limiting the time because the remote host freezes up or overheats.

I also think rather than a Remote Control Car, it should be one of the AIBO toys. It wouldn't take away much from the simple nature of the game, but allow you to focus more on realistic puzzles than settings and levels.

Just my thoughts anyway ^_^

And a Bus moving 70mph can not jump a 50ft level gap, but in Speed it does.
For saying your hanging in a forum for a BASIC created for game development, your about as creative as a spoon.

Would would be cool is if you can push those crates to block the lasers. If you had two crates blocking a laser the space between them would be safe to cross. Could get puzzle elements like that, and mirrors being pushed in the way to change the path of lasers. I know in real-life the mirrors and crates would set the alarm off, but they could work nicely in the game.

Simple... yet fun!

would be pretty hard work something remote controlled.
I like the mirror idea, reminds me of what they have in Tales of Symphonia, where you had to open doors by redirecting beams of light.

with games like this it's the lateral thinking puzzles that are cool. you don't need many types just enough to be able to really be creative level-wise..

spoons are nice, but not anything like the sexy forks, I mean sweet stainless steel, nice slenderness moving along the handle with nice ravishing points at the end, pure sexiness, ooohh.

And knives, don't get me started with knives, they are sexy, gorgeous, beautiful, and dangerous looking, its good to date a knife, but never turn your back on them because they are back stabbers, they lure you towards you but are vicious in bed, I mean a friend came out dead dating his knife.

So if you ever feel lonely, hug a fork

It seems the last 4 people to post weren't called David, Robert, Michael or Andrew so maybe that suggestion was wrong. Maybe we just post more often than anyone else.

doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things though..
i mean there are 4 seperate andrews who've answered to this thread alone, there are also 3 roberts and 3 davids.

compared to the 5-6remaining posters who likihood is they all have different names. i mean that to me is a tad more than a coincidence.
