Ok, I have a piece of <****> computer, so I average about 20fps on most of my games. But with this code:

I only get like 8fps!!! Why would there be such a drop in frame rate with such simple things going on? Btw, my terrain image is only 50x50 and the bmp files are actually quite small in filesize...

300fps here bt it is hard to test without your heightmap file to be accurate. Dark Flame you probably only got 33 because he has capped the sync rate at 30. Have you tried with sync rate 0?

I cap it at 30, because the absolute most I ever get is like 24 with this comp. Anyway, do matrices really take that much speed away, is that why its going slow?

I get 27fps with my laptop....
Wow 1594, what specs Dark Flame??

Matricies are double sided and high poly.
You would gain some FPS if you were to load a low poly cone rather than use DB make cone due to them being high poly too.
Also try adding in delays, such as checking if the user wants to move the cone every 5FPS and updating the camera every 5FPS also. Hopefully this wont affect the smoothness of your program, but will increase the FPS.

In one of my programs I added in a lot of delays and the program ran EXACTLY the same as it did before, only difference being my FPS had risen by 30!

I have found that sometimes the syncs mess me up. I choose not to use them because, like you, my computer isn't very good, just a Windows 98. So I choose to exclude them, but your sync rate could be adjusted higher or lower, probably just excluded altogether.
