Can anyone explain why this may of happened? I have an antivirus program running (Panda AV 2005) that updated about 25 mins ago - I can't understand a cause of this, nor can I work out how to get it back again - ayone?

Try buying a music CD, then use WMP to 'rip' it onto your HD (specifying MP3 as the format). Least mod's don't suspect the worst these days.......

You'll notice that your 'rip' settings are pointing to 'C:\poo' as the location, however, your original screenshot displays the music in a folder other than this directory! That's beside the point though, it's actually illegal to 'rip' and make 'backup' CD's anyway, so you just put your head in a noose, my friend!

Absolutely! What happens if I purchase and download my favourite album only to have my hard-drive crash and I lose all copies of my purchase? There's nothing like a good physical copy of everything I buy.

You also won't notice that those pieces of music were put there about a year ago - so I have since been ripping to temp dirs in odrer to drag onto my MP3 player.

Maybe its just me, but why is this feature on WMP then? What are we supposed to rip?

I used to be a big fan of Moby, but now his music all sounds the same. They always start out with a sample or just a piano loop, then he adds strings or drums, then bass, then he removes all except piano loop or sample, then repeats the whole process again. Do this 20 times and you have his album 18 (I'm very bitter).

@Jeku - Will, good thing is that his latest lbum has moved away from this 'sample' problem. He sings alot more. I have to say I prefer his sample stuff though.

Track 12 from hotel is one beautiful track aswell.

I'm very confused about the 'illegal to rip music' comment.
from my understanding it is legal to do it provided it is only for personal use, this is why WM7-10 have Licensing Tools only allowing you to share music with other computers you put your License on.

That said WM9/10 allow you to side track it, but that's beside the point.

It is perfectly legal to rip music or any information for that matter(That you own), to create a backup CD for archival purposes. But then again, I live in the US, maybe their just more leniant(sp?)

I'm confident it is legal to burn CDs from music you own as long as you don't give it away..the "gift" excuse probably doesn't work

I think Exeat was joking about that statement, as I also don't think it's illegal to convert your CDs into MP3s for your own use. I mean, you're still listening to the songs that you bought, right? And MS is not claiming that you can only use their WMP ripper for your own copyrighted music, are they?

Ok spooky... you just saved me;

After hovering over the folders (for a few seconds), the 'add favoutites' suddenly re-appeared at the top. Is that weird or what!

Err, ang on. If it was illegal to rip music from your CD's (which I always do BTW, just like loads of nice real CD's next to stereo) then technically programs like iTunes, SonicStage (that I use for my Sony MP3 player) etc would be breaking the law. Mine cannot rip straight to the player for example. It needs to rip to HD, then you can select the tracks/ albums you want on the player.

Exeat is in Australia where it is apparently illegal to rip a cd to mp3.

Canada currently protects those who even download MP3s. We pay a levy on CD-Rs and other recordable media so we're already paying for our sins (so they say)
