I started work on this in DBPro about a month ago. 'The Room' is an FPS inspired by quake. At the moment theres just 1 level and a fixed number of enemies, but when its finished it will include 5 or 6 levels and multiple game types such as fastkills, dodging and a quake inspired overload style mode.

But like i say this demo has 1 level and is a simple deathmatch game against 2 enemies. The current enemies are on what will be the 'easy' difficulty setting. Basically i want to know what you think should be changed to make the game better, and also what you think works well and shouldnt be messed about with.

The demo can be downloaded here (5.3MB);

[Edit] its in href tags but it wont act like a link

False advertising!
I don't see any room in the screenshot!
I demand the 5seconds of my life back...

Ah I'd only waste them anyways.
While I do like people taking the Quake/Doom as the base for thier game inspirations, for the love of god please; go down to the hardware store and buy some light bulbs!

You know in Resurrection of Evil, I was seriously thinking a funny mod for it would be if you could grab a portable generator in order to to carry a light on your backpack ^_^

Okay... I like you to go on! But: The screenshot is nearly black excapt the monsters and 3 sprites. Cannot say anything to this.

EDIT: Didn't found the DOWNLOAD LINK, so I though the demo isn't there... Maybe turn off the download/view button - it's only the screenshot again btw download is VERY slow atm...

Played the demo now. Was fun to kill some ugly monsters!! That's a pretty dark atmosphere! Add more monster types and some walls, stairs and barrels... I think you got that on your plan.

Question: What do you use for the room collisions? BSP, single objects, Newton...?

I thought this was a thread about Silent Hill 4 at first...

I don't download off of freewebs though, if there is a mirror of sorts then I'll download.

Dang... I ran out of ammo!!

That was great - really good fun; it scared the life out of me to begin with (There was nothing there, until two jumped out in front of me and started killing me!)

Couple of things:

@ Die when health reaches zero! I was -194 for most of i!

@ Add more ammo etc.

@ Give the exe a cool custom icon

Otherwise, that was very fun! Well done FROGGIE!

Thanks for the feedback.
As for freewebs what other places will host the game for free?

Tom Taylor: the collisions were done by myself using the intersect object command

Sorry for the darkness, i guess i just got used to it while making it. Hows it look now?

Thanks for that Baggers

Have a seek in there, you may find something interesting.
actually I didnt mind the darkness, it being a very simple level but if you are going to do a more complex one then lighter may be a good idea. Even quake had light areas...(i think..im more of a quake2 guy)

Nice and scary. I would suggest a flashlight that you can switch with your weapon. Keep the levels dark.

Just downloaded. Was really cool, but was that an actual room? It just looked like a black backdrop to me.

edit: ah ok it appears it is. But really, thats darker than any game I have played, I can't see the room even with my settings up full

Peter Moulyneux (sp) has created a game/demo recently with the same name, its a very interactive world where everything reacts with everything. advanced visual appeal and physics on everything.

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself
