Hi

Me and The Nerd has some problems with animated images. We've made an animation in ExGen Lite, and exported it as a single animated image. But we can't figure out how to use the effects in DBPro.
Can you for example make a plain and texture it with the animation image? If you can help us in any way, we'll be gratefull!

Thanks

KLU 007 & The Nerd

What format is animation? Is it an avi movie, a sheet of animation frames in a bitmap, or some other sort.

We can use both AVI and bmp. But when we export as BMP, the file extension is .avi.bmp, and if we rename it it doesn't work, so...

But please help!

I'm not sure how the lite version works cause i use the full. But in full you can export as single bmp, split bmp, or avi. Use single bmp, to create a animated sprite, or save as avi if its possible if you used split bmps, you would have build the bmps into a tileset anyways to create a animated sprite. To use a avi you could do something like

Load animation "test.avi",1
play animation to image 1,1,0,0,64,64
make object plain 1,64,64
texture object 1,1
loop animation 1

the last 4 numbers in the play animation line 0,0,64,64 are the dimensions of the avi file left, top, right, bottom.
If you export as a 64 x 64 bmp, the file size is 348kbs, a avi of the same animation uncompressed is 207 kbs, the bmp converted to 24bit png is 9.12, and a avi compressed with mpeg-4 Codec v2 crispness at 100% is 4kbs. mpeg 4 100% is probablly the best way to go if size would be a issue even over a animated sprite using png.

Your signature has been erased by a mod -- please resize to under 600x120...

Now we can ALMOST see the animation playing. I don't know why, but it's like it's playing really, really fast. That fast that you can't see what it's actually supposed to be. We've tried with the 'Set Animation Speed' or something like that, but that doesn't help us. Either is it playing to slow(or whatever, it doesn't look like it's moving), else is it playing too fast, and then you can't make out what it is. What's wrong?

Wow, I just figured it out while typing this message This code works:

But if we loop the animation, it doesn't work. I guess that's because the animation is playing over itself. Or something... Whatever, it works now. Thanks for the help

So if it is .avi.bmp you probobley saved it with .avi under the drop down list then typed somting like file.avi.....

Save it agaib but make sure the littlw drop down list says Avi or what ver you want ...
