Right, hopefully this won' t get pushed to the bottom because of Lay's pathtic bout of spamming.

I've just moved my comp downstairs and am setting up a new account so the rest of the family can use it for surfing the net.

When going to set up a new account I found an account called ASP.NET Machine A... This is a limited account and is password protected but does NOT appear on the login screen. Is it safe to just delete the account or not and what in the name of all things holy is it doing there in the first place? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It's your computer's account for running asp.net web apps on your localhost. It gets set up when you install the .net framework. If you remove the account, don't plan on doing any asp.net stuff.

This machine account is usually created when something like Visual.NET/J++/XML SDK is installed. I have reason to believe that this account is created after installation of Service Pack 2 aswell.

The main ASP.net account for asp.net web apps is totally hidden (you wouldn't be able to find it what-so-ever; because if you delete it, you won't be doing much ASP....)

And I think its quite smart. It is a lower-privelaged account that web apps can run under. This way, even if a malicious hacker compromised your web server, they would be running under the ASP account, which has fewer privelages on your computer. Therefore, the hacker couldn't do much damage.

I don't think that security precautions which make lots of good common sense are stupid.
