Another thing is that there is plenty of songs that come with the demo, so you can maybe use one of those if you like it.

BECAUSE I'VE JUST FINISHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hooray!!!!!!!!

I still am having a few problems, though... I saved it to an executable, but i get an error message when i try to play it. I can get to the main menu, but if i start a new game, continue an old one, or go to the mini-games, it says "runtime error : error 10". Anyone know why?

When I get errors, it's usualy because I haven't included all the media... not sure if that helps.

Error 10 means there is media missing.

hmmm... i guessed it might be something like that... I put the media in folders depending on what it was. The game was in a folder with those folders in it, so why doesn't it work?

That isn't the main problem. If i put the game in the same folder as the media, it does the weirdest thing ever... It gets to the main menu, loads the music and sound, and works perfectly. When i click on the new game button, it gets error 37.

I started thinking that it had something to do with the fact that i was editing the save/load file, so to test my theory, i tried again, this time going to the mini-game page instead. same error.

I wonder why?

Does it work while you're still in the editor (dark basic)? If so then I don't see how it could be anything but a lack of media. You should try compiling it right in the folder that has you program and media in it, and make sure all other programs are closed when you do.

Didn't read all of the way through peoples writing, so may have been said,

ModPlug, is a VST tracker which you record a sound, play with its settings and you can make load of differant sounds and music, you will need to find .wav samples on the net for it, like guitars, piano's etc.

MadTracker, like mod plug, free version won't allow .wav/.mp3 export whereas ModPlug does, but comes with samples, so you could download that for the samples and use ModPlug.

AnvilStudio, a cool freee lil midi app, music is made like playing a keyboarsd or piano roll, but don't need to record to time.

Power Tab- another free midi app, like Anvil studio, but presented nicer, but uses guitar tab as writing music, which is quick and easy to use.

Teh Cian: I see you've changed your name... anything to do with Steven changing his name to Teh Buddhist (just wondering...)?

slightly less young programmer: Any luck getting it to work?

Effects Maxter: You don't come onto peoples threads to ask questions merely for your personal gain. Make your own thread to do that. If squirrel wars used amazing animations that slightly less young programmer had claimed to create, you could have asked him, or if the topic had even been going in that direction. You instead decided that (and I quote) dododoodod9odododododododododododododcododododododo, was a good way to start your question without raising anyone’s curiosity. I'm sorry I responded to your post, and I’ve edited my message, as it was pretty useless anyhow. That'll teach me for posting when I'm sick and vomiting every ten minutes. Eh, it seemed like a bad idea at the time... And are you aware you spelled master wrong (I apologize for pointing this out if you do)?

progress over the last few days:
set up payloadz account to collect buyers' money.
added a pause menu.
fixed some saving problems
fixed error 37 (Thanks to TDK)
fixed payloadz problem.
added a new mini-game.

You're welcome.

I know that you have worked hard for this game. But seven dollars I was expecting this to be free. Altough this is your first game. Why already go for the moneys?
I think this game is really good. But i don't think you can charge for it(for now that is!)

Oh god... I should watch my mouth now...
(Reffering to one of my first posts. I was actually trying to make 1 dollar of a program that sucks!). Oh well. Here's the link:
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=33046&b=10

if i wanted to charge 1 dollar for that crap(+ i was soo much a newbie) then this should cost 10000000000$ !!!)
I hope i don't give you any good ideas now

But oh well. Good luck with it!

Seven dollars? Who told you that? I never said it would cost 7 dollars.

(edit) Ahhh... I edited that "7 dollars" post. This is my first finished game, so i've had a lot of practice... But if you think it's not worth 7 dollars, then it's free. However, I'm just guessing and hoping that it has something to do with the fact that Squirrel Wars is the first game i finished.
Everyone I've asked said "Yeah, I'd buy it for 7 dollars!" but that is because everyone I asked knew the question was hypothetical...
I think i'll go hide in a corner now.

I think it's always good to make the first game you release to the world free and good, so that people will trust you and be willing to buy a game from you in the future... or something like that. And that way more people will play it, which equals more feedback.

Look at Dumbo and Cool to see what people expect for only 10 dollars, and look at Firewall or the Star Wraith games to see what it takes to get even 20 or 30 bucks for a game.

I'd love to play the full version of Squirrel Wars, but there are few DB games I'm willing to pay for, if you know what I mean. It may be worth seven dollars, but if I had to pay for the worth of everything I used, I'd be drowned in debt.

Don't hide in a corner though, because just about everyone loves your game, but more importantly, corners are often full of dust and cobwebs, and monsters have a tendency to lurk around them.

For your next game recruit a modeler, so not only will you game play great, but when you finish, it will look great as well.

And this. The lava is texture scrolling.

(edit) people would buy Dumbo and Cool for $20.00. Compare it to some commercial-quality console games that cost $40.00, and you'll see why.

(edit(edit)) Half my mind wants to hide in a corner, half wants to give this away free, and half wants to keep trying to sell it.

Well. As Bizar Guy says. Make your first game free for the world
so they will trust you in future games. Then. Your next game could be selled if you made it good and got a modeller

Not everyone. There are quite a few people who wont but it just because it's made in db, and if Drew does sell it for $20, I don't think he'll make as much, even though he could sell it for that.

I like the first pic. You lost me on the second though... I didn't understand it.

i wouldn't suggest selling your first game, unless you spent 8 years on it and it blows all the current games out of the water.

having a free game will help if you want to sell future games because then people will be able to see your quality of work, and decide if they want another game by you (of course your games should improve as you go along, or you have a problem!)

second it is a great game truly it blows many games here off by a mile but if you were to sell it consider the following
-make it longer as in more stuff
-improve grafix/what the nerd said
-somehow go back in time and make this not your first game.
-and then add amazingly cool stuff and a video and your set
