Well basically when my computer boots theres is a really weird buzzing sounds that lasts all the way to the desktop screen and then dies out. It's not the psu because i got a new one yesterday, and it can't be any of the fans. It's very hard to tell where its coming from...Has anyone got any ideas on what it could be?

Thanks

Go unplugging stuff till it stops. Start by unplugging the built-in speaker, then one of the fans (remember to plug it back in later!), and so on.

I get this sometimes... It can be when my computer is starting from cold... or when the case is vibrating wierdly... Try touching your case when it does it... If it stops then think about getting a new case...

(I need a new one too )

Vibrations come from moving parts. It could be:

Fans (power supply, processor, graphics card, chipset, case)
Hard-drives
CD/DVD drives

If you decide to unplug the fans one by one, be very careful not to cause that portion of your machine to overheat.

@DBAlex, The case vibrates because something inside the case is vibrating. You don't need to replace your case for this (unless you want to of course), you just need to trace the source of the vibration.

Oh...

It could be the Fans... One was a bit dodgy anyway... Ebuyer 80p job thing...

Mmm... Maybe I can try and fix it today...

Also I get a problem when im playing anything graphically intensive... (game, PS etc) I can hear rattling coming from the PC... What could this be ?

(Im assuming its the Graphics Card?)

Thanks if you can help...

My computer always makes a really loud noise when I first boot it up(it lasts about 5 minutes), though sometimes after an hour or so it starts again. I think in my case its one of the fans. No idea what your problem could be though..

If it wasn't making the noise before the psu was installed then I would consider the psu to be either duff, incorrectly installed, or it actually does make that noise (mine is a 650 watt 3 fan effort, and does make a little noise). Either that or I would go with the knocked something out of place when installing the psu angle. I mean it would be an amazing coincidence if something completely unrelated to a new hardware install went wrong immediatly after it.

Cheers

Is it like a grinding noise? If it is, its probably your floppy drive.

most likely CD-Rom... mine goes sodding crazy, especially when there's a disc in there. It's one of the early 42x CDRW drives, and it's literally like being in a Mini when your reach 70mph

everything just shakes and is so loud you think it'll fall apart.
but then it calms down when Windows log-in appears.

Ok...Ive found out what it is, it's the north bridge fan(little fan near the processor) well when i booted my computer this morning, the noise started and i could clearly hear where it was coming from so i got a pen and poked the fan and the noise stopped and then built up again...so anyone know how to cure the noise?

Thanks

Is there a build-up of dust on the fan? If so, you may be able to get away with cleaning it and lightly oiling it. If not, or if you can't be bothered to clean it, then just replace it.

was gonna say it sounds like a fan thats bearings and/or internals are near shot. The sound stops as the bearings/internals become warm from moving. Just replace the fan.
