Hey guys,

I was wondering if anybody knows of a program that will take huge audio files that are like 6 to 8 hours long and compress them. The reason I'm asking is because my english teacher puts some books on cds however there usually like 6 to 8 hours, and as you could imagine thats A Lot of cds, so I want to know if there's any way to compress them, so they don't take up that many cds. And I thought about using Dvds, but she likes them on cds so she can listen to them anywhere. So, if anyone knows of some program that is capable of this let me know.

Thanks in advance .

Sadly its an impossibility to fit more then the 70-80 minutes per CD. I don't know how to explain it, so i'll say "its just like that".

Unlike tapes its about the length and not the quality. No matter the quality/compression... you can only fit so many minutes onto a CD.

Thanks guys,

Makes sense, you can reduce size, but you can't reduce time. Is there maybe some kind of cd that will play on a regular cd player, but has more time on it???

Your best option is .mp3 - I mean I have both 'War of the Worlds' albums (Jeff Wayne) as .mp3 on a CD, and they work out fine.

You can buy .mp3 compatible DVD players for about £30 - cheap DVD players make much more sense than expensive CD players.

You can get portable CD players that support .mp3 for £25.

I reckon a MP3 CD could hold a good 8 hours of audio no problem. You would be advised to keep them split up into chapters or something though, then let the CD play them in sequence as well as letting the user select a chapter - don't let it make a massive single .mp3 file or a lot of players will choke on it.
