Now if they'd done that with a laptop hard drive then that would be cool, but at the end of the day - iPODS should be portable, and that botch job looks a little flimsy to me.

At least with a lappy hard drive you could attach it to the back of the pod and still keep it in your pouch. 5gb laptop hard disks are very cheap, and are basically the same as normal hard disks except the power input is much less, like you could probably power the drive with the iPod's power - now that would be a handsome hack job.

I would've thought a 2.5" drive would've been more sane to try first off but, meh

Personally I don't see the appeal of doing it really. This said, I have the urge to look up 1.8" drives now; could be really useful to fit one where a standard 2.5" or 3.5" would be too much.

No doubt probably a special order because if I remember they're special made for the iPod, but that said given the number of iPods in ciriculation you'd think the price would've dropped. Well anyways interesting, but still can't help but think some people have too much time on thier hands ^_^

Over the last few days I've completed 14 Technology Demos, built-up a small portfolio of 6 varying game models, designed an built a level in Counter-Strike; oh and add to that been working on my website, while keeping in regular contact with a new job about finances and possible work I can be doing while I'm not physically there. I didn't know they got 1" small.. Hitachi's Smallest is the Size of a PS2 Memory Card and hold 6GB at DMA/33; that is just insanely small.
