"lame" isnt the word i'd use, but i#m guessing your idea of a day out when your bored is to go out skydiving or something uber extreme- either that or you're a chav who only enjoys football and stella.
kite boardings isnt much fun yet it is a popular sport that recently took off in the midlands and is now as popular as BMX-ing and skateboarding- which i really hate since the fields used to be empty before these amateurs came along harumph-harumph
i think the problem's just the location- in britain it's hard to find massive flat open areas which dont have long grass or large rocks etc, and you wont get kicked off from, or covered in sheep poop as you trip up.
I've seen on the extreme sports channel these people kiteboarding on massive salt plains like where they did the land speed record, and they can go for miles and not have to stop, and sometimes they go in these 3 wheeled buggies and get up to speeds of over 100mph, but you couldnt do that anywhere in the uk, since theres always a fence or something after 100 meters, or another kiter. it doesnt seem worth having to drag your board and your kite back ot the other end of the field again to get another run (in the videos of the salt plans they'd have someone in a car driving behind therm to pick them up)
as i said, i have both a board and a kite yet i rarely use them together. i like the board for going to the top of a hill and slalloming around trees etc, just like snowboarding but a harder landing i imagine. and then there's the kiting- which might sound lame, but i assure you it's far better than it sounds. i'm not talking about kiddy kites, nor the 2 lined ones, i'm on about the 4 lined kites that range between 5-30 meters wide (the larger ones being used more for trans-ocean kite surfing or salt plains).
these kites in even a slight breeze can make a fuly grown man fly- which is what we like to do
but its already got 3 of my mates in hospital.
Next time you think a sport's lame, go find some kids doing it in a field, just as we witnessed. we were on a field talking to some older pro's and a man came over saying "this is kids stuff" (obviously trying to impress his wife and kids). we handed him a kite, tried to tell him what to do, but being arrogant just ignored us. as soon as he picked up the lines a massive gust of wind came and he flew face first into a fence, walking off with blood dripping from him.
