welcome to DBP TGC DB.

its good to see your starting out with some easy things to test your skills on

''good luck"

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself 

Dark Basic I would say is the easiest and most supportive way to start out in programming. I started with Dark Basic Professional last year and I am already learning Visual Basic .NET, Visual C# .NET, and Visual C++ .NET.

Welcome to the forums soullless. I started with Dark Basic Professional a little over 2 years ago, and I haven't stopped since. Of course, I've expanded to Pascal and C/C++.

I setup a site with a bunch of tutorials.
http://www.curvedbasic.com/

A lot of them are 3D, but there's a few with 2D if that's what you're interested in. If nothing, there's some great pacman and pong tutorials in the newcomers section to help get you started(Might even be a few text based games to help you get started as well).

A book? I hate book. Book is stupid.

Greetings and salutations.

Watch out for the crazy members, they may eat you.

Just do one thing when it comes to programming, persist, and you'll get what you want in no time. Cheers.

Edit: Add a "[" to the start of your sig and your pic will show BTW.

Welcome Souless. One thing I think you need to do is learn to use periods. They are very nice for improving readability.
