I want to make a zelda style game. But I'm confused how to make the map (going up changes the screen to a different map, or sprite 1 alwatys in middle) or something. Is there a tutorial or something.
Please help and sorry for this confusing post.

Use the search option. I've seen this question asked many times before. There is a tutorial for 2d side scrolling by Pizzaman.

it would help if you specified which type of zelda you are talking about. the code for one of the older games (with a top down camera angle working with sprites) would be completely different from one of the newer ones (a 3rd person camera working with 3d models).

I'm making a 2d game that has different "maps" for screens...
if you walk off the screen you come to the bottom of another "map"

LIKE the 2d zelda. I'm not making a zelda game I just want to use that effect. Please could someone link to a tutorial or tell me a good code. I've tried and failed

I didn't look around for too long but there looke to be some useful stuff. Just because it isn't for DB doesn't mean the logic isn't the same.
Anyway, if you haven't the foggiest idea how to go about it then I suggest you don't. I would also say that you should go for 3D in DarkBASIC. 2D would be easier in Play Basic or Game Maker(free).
Don't let me discourage you from trying something but I suggest you try easier smaller games to help you learn for yourself how to do what you want.

the first zelda was a great game, another great game is final fantasy tactics- if i had the programing skills i would try to make it,

i think if i was to go about such a large task i would break it down and try to accomplish small parts and put them together.

i don't think there is a full tutorial on making games like these but if you search enough you should be able to find different tutorials that you can put together to achieve your goal.
