I was wondering what the main differences were ...
I have been using DE since Guy fist released it,
but was thinking about CK since Rick claims he liked it.
But, I was checking out the install method, yikes.

Anybody still using it?

I used DarkEdit because all I really wanted at the time was the little global variable workaround. I'm going to use Codekeeper for my next project though, because I've figured out how it does global variables, and the code taping feature works tons better than #include. With it I should be able to put all variable declarations in on tape file, as well as functions subroutines, and hard coded initialization.
Plus, there's all those other little features that are fun to play with.

I just started using the editor that comes with Darkbasic Pro... already I miss the Preview/Insert RGB Color function in DarkEdit.

Grog, BlueIDE is way better for DBPro than the default one, and more stable.

Thanks Bear for the reply on codekeeper, I guess I test that one out this weekend.

Can't say I've ever liked any of the user IDEs for DBP, I mean they've all felt to be extremely low quality.

BlueGUI in particular despite what everyone claims has never proven itself to me as worth leavning it's quirks. The standard IDE is pretty much stable, and I've not had a problem with it since Windows XP SP2 was released.

The main reason I dislike the other IDEs is simple though.
They're not simple.

BlueGUI and Codekeeper are very similar, in the fact they're trying to do far too much with bugger-all space. If the UI was to be designed properly, by someone who understood what is easier for everyone then they would probably be a lot better. I've always found that a comfortable working environment produces better work, if you get frustrated by where things are, how it's inlay is done then you tend to stress more and get nothing accomplished.

DarkEdit is pretty sweet, imo. It's effectively a glorified Text Editor, and quite frankly you don't need much mroe.

Waffle, I tried both BlueIDE and CodeKeeper and BlueIDE won out.

Things I love about BlueIDE:

1. Project Version History (1-3 with different colors... big plus!)
2. Project To-Do List
3. Project Notes
4. Code Library
5. 4-Way Code View
6. With the newest build RGB Picker

I am surprised that BlueIDE doesn't have a button to print the version history, to-do list, and notes. Or a button to transfer all that to a text file. It shouldn't be too hard to make a program in Darkbasic to do that though.

Thanks Waffle. BlueIDE is here to stay on my computer.

@Raven,
I did examine CodeKeeper,
I'll stick with DarkEdit for DBC ...

Reasons are:
CodeKeeper no longer supported (neither is DE, but its stable)
CK requires too many other widgets to install
DE defines work OK for small macros
CK seems like its missing something

I always liked DarkEDIT's Types, always thought it was a nice touch.
Also handling projects seemed easier.

That said once I got XP I couldn't stand the bug it has with the standard display.

What gets me is why someone hasn't made anything so trivially simplistic for DB/P yet.. I mean it seriously is just a glorified notepad. Yet in the simplicity, it's kinda much quicker and easier to use.

Seriously, when was the last time you used the sidebar to make sure everything was sorted in your DB/P projects? I only use it for changing the base resolution and including files.. that's about it.

"CodeKEEPER's Install Method" - is only if you haven't got the VB runtimes on your PC. If you've got windows XP, then you don't need anything apart from CK itself.

If you've ever used Visual Basic 6.0 or a VB6-powered program (WinSpeedUp, Dexster audio editor, etc.) then you already have everything you need. Aside from CK, like I've said twice.

As you say CK seems like it's missing something, it's always been the other way round for me... Can't stand DarkEDIT.

@Raven BlueGUI is not an IDE as I am sure RobK will testify!

You are thinking of BlueIDE ... a common mistake that I have noticed a lot of people making.

BlueGUI is the WindowsAPI wrapper that RobK made and now TGC sell. BlueIDE is the alternate IDE that RobK made and is free to download.
