http://www.blender3d.com/cms/Home.2.0.html I found this for my Mac when I was looking for a 3D modeler for it and it seems to be cross platform. The modeler will export to .x and import plenty of file types. I found this usefull and I hope anyone just getting started does too.
Cheers,
Christian

PS I didn't want to place this in 3D chat as I found it would be more useful if new people see it here. If it needs to be moved I can repost it in 3D chat and you can lock this.

there is an extensive 3d modelling post about the types of 3d applications found here.
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=25468&b=3

blender is indeed a great package and the latest version has directx and directx 8 exports. It does however have a different method usage in regards to usability.

DIGIT magazine recent or last months issue had a free copy of amapi 6 for mac/pc.
amapi is a versatile program that allows you to work in nurbs and then switch to polygons as you get closer to export.
its a stand alone program or a plugin to 3d studio max

are you running 9.2 and 10.3.9 oses on your MAC amapi needs a classic OS
what kind of MAC do you have.?

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself 

Looks nice! I used it years ago, and it was basic to say the least. Seems to have come on in leaps and bounds.

I looked at this when I bought DB Classic. Blender claimed to have a built-in games engine at the time, but it was pants! Does it still have this engine?

BatVink,

Yes, it does still carry the engine, though I have never used it myself.
