I just went to play on my DC today (Havent used it for about a month)

and when it boots a disk (if it boots it at all) it goes back to the main DC thing (Play, VMU, CD, Options)

Its really annoying, Ive taken it apart and got rid of dust but no change?

What should I do ? New DC ? Laser Cleaner ?

Help!

Anyone else had this?

(My freind had the same problem, he just bought another DC )

Clean the lens yourself using a cotton bud and a tiny amount of lens cleaning fluid. Let a single drop rest on the CD lens and let it sit for a few second then gently wipe over the lens in each direction.

Lens cleaning CD's do very little.

If you're using using homebrew you might have buggered your laser.
I think if you look, you can find replacement lasers but that involves taking the DC apart, which you've, erm, proven yourself capable of.

Just gave it a good clean... Might wanna get some of that Lens Cleaner though...

You should be able to get that anywhere... try supermarkets, Staples or Curry's (if you're desparate... their prices can be a bit overboard), that sort of thing.

You can use Isopropanol Alcohol. Get the highest pecentage avaible 90%+ is best so as not to leave any residue. Clean the lens VERY gently with 100% cotton swabs (not the sponge/cloth kind used for make-up). Allow to dry for about 15-20 min (30+ if using less than 90% Alcohol). If that doesn't work it not your lens. The same Alcohol can be used on media discs(CD, DVD, GC, DC, PSP etc..) with cotton balls instead of swabs. Use 1 to apply and 1 to dry. I hope that helps.

P.S. The alcohol is usually less than 3$ a bottle U.S. If you in the UK I don't how much it would be there. Those cleaning solutions are just over priced alcohol usually.

I usually solve this problem by leaving it running for a few hours in the menu, charging it. IIRC it tells you something like this in the manual.

Actually you can run homebrew apps on your DC without a mod chip. You can pretty much do anything you need to do without a mod chip on the DC.

Yeah...

It even runs CD-Rs !

And anyway taking the DC apart is about the simplest thing ever... Its only 3 screws at the bottom and then one on the modem port...




I didnt even need a tutorial...

Nice to see people still play with the dc. I loved mine and still use it for soulcaliber. I got that game for my cube but bizarrely the dc version is better.

Skies of Arcadia is one of the best games ever.

Not very constructive i know but i was starting to think i was the only person that had one anymore. Mine still works great and it only cost me forty quid.

I use my dreamcast nearly every week... (Except like this month... where I stopped playing it for a month...)

So blah.. I still use my DC more than my X-Box even...

Im considering selling my X-Box too...

I only played DC 1 time. Then it was Crazy Taxi. The graphics were pretty sweet.

I know, Jeku, I use homebrew myself. I suggested replacement lasers because it's believed that the laser wears out more quickly when using homebrew, and it could have happened to DBAlex.
Dunno why it's beleived that it's possible, though, as GD-ROMs seem to be ordinary CDs with a few changes (Euro GDs have "EMI CD HOLLAND" around the middle).

Have you seen soul calibur for the PS2 and compared it to the DC version? Or Dead or Alive 2? The DC's anti-aliasing is much better.
Here's a screenshot from the PS2 version
I'll have to find a screenie of the DC equivalent.
The only problem I see with the DC is RAM. 16mb isn't a whole lot. And the GD's with only 1 gig compared to the DVDs used by the newer consoles.

Not only that, for some reason some TV's can't handle PS2's 60Hz whereas the same TV's can take DC's 60Hz!
