Ok, I keep getting popup ads even, when i dont have my browser open, so I assume this is adware. I have already run Ad-Aware, AVG, and Microsoft Anit-Spyware. Not a single thing was found. How can I find the adware and get rid of it?

Don't look at me like that!

I've got all the updates and have done every scan possible, everytime it comes up with no results.

Well, if nothing can be found by any program, that means that you have no problem...

Personally, I would use the trial verson of NOD32 and get that to do a full scan - see what that comes up with.

Stop downloading Porn.
Alternatively it sounds like a) You've not downloaded and Installed Service Pack 2.. in which case your an idiot, and/or b) you haven't turned off Windows Messaging; a service which while good in it's intentions to providing you with up-to-date news about new released and such through Microsoft.. it's been completely abused by the advertising community.

btw. if you find a NON-Microsoft entity using the Messaging System you should report them on Microsoft's piracy site; because legally only Microsoft can use it.

Want to know how to turn off the messaging? Have fun with google cause I'm not gonna tell ya.

The Windows Messaging Service produces Windows message boxes. Something I had forgotten about... I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't got rid of the service yet...

The windows messenging service actually has quite good use in lans. Just use:

net send <computer name or local IP> yourmessage

And it'll arrive in a matter of seconds.

Good for when you don't want to use a third party messenger that your employee's could use for other means.

As Eric mentions, it is very useful for Business Networks.
If you correctly set-up Windows XP Professional / 2000 / 2003 then your capable of making sure only given users have access to the Messaging System.

It's not possible in Home or Client versions. Also if your not connected to the internet directly, then there is no way fore the Adverts to come through. (this same bug stops a number of other things though)

So it can be useful to a large company to let employees know important information, say if your working at a stock company and it could flash up when certain stock drops.

Or your waiting for a delivery, the front desk could just message you it's arrived. It does have practical business uses, if applied correctly. Problem is it's basically pointless for home users.

Windows Service Pack 2 will disable it, by default.

June 16 security updates for WinXp Sp2 address this issue, as mentioned in their 'fix-list'

Should pop up automatically in 'Automatic update'

Ok, now this stuff is just pissing me off! It keeps adding new programs to my desktop, and changing my wallpaper! As far as I can tell, the thing that is actually causing all this is invisible and non-existant...but yet it does stuff to my computer. I just reformatted my whole drive about a week ago, an I really do not want to do it again.
