Wow, I thought I'd misread it when it said he'd died. I mean, he's still on TV, usually the only famous faces you see dying are retired.

I remember watching Countdown all those years ago.

All those years ago? Its still on. All the time.

Very sorry to hear he's died. I always thought Richard Whiteley was a classic British eccentric - very interesting taste in clothing.

Countdown taught me to read.

Shame about Richard Whitely, nobody else can do it so it might possibly end.

The shows are often filmed all at one time, so they don't have to stop showing them. Well still, sad to hear.

Did you know, Countdown was Channel 4's first show?
I don't mean it was one of the first shows, I mean it was the very first programme they showed when Channel 4 changed from the Test Card in 1982. 23 years it's been going now, bloody remarkable.

More so that over 2 decades it still had the original 2 people on it. It is by far a landmark event for Channel 4.

RW was one of those guys who was inconspicous because he never did anything scandalous. But he was probably one of the most prominnent faces on TV for the last 3 decades.

Saw Countdown being filmed last year. They film one week's worth of episodes per day. He was actually quite a funny guy.

Yes it's sad, but he was a 61 year old (probably overweight) man who was pretty seriously ill in hospital... while I'm sad he's dead and was very entertaining, I'd be lying if I thought his death was a 'shocker', as some papers put it.

And powersoft, you're a crazy foo' (in the best, Elton John way, possible)
