It should be a serious, gritty film. I've been waiting ages for a film to be done...

uh, no. i don't know where you learned film history but film noir is not a pisstake genre. film noir is a genre and style that grew out of the disillusionment of world war II. film noir is not a pisstake, it is indeed a serious genre, and nowhere near a joke. do some research before you make silly statements.

i for one am looking forward to it. sin city was the first film noir in the states to be released to the great public for a long time, it'd be nice to see it come back as a strong genre. also the quality western would be nice. bring back the american genres! except musicals, heh.

oh, wow. insignificantpunks.cjb.net.

They've been talking about a MP film ever since the first game got released. I just hope they don't go OTT with the bullet-time.

Half-Life would've made a great film, but that still hasn't happened!

Far Cry would as well - mind you, the film couldn't be worse than the game.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic had a great cinematic story, that would work as well. Although they'd have a cut things down substantially, otherwise it'd be a 9 hour film! Here're a few other games that might make good films:

Edge of Chaos: Independance War 2
Deus Ex (maybe a tv series would be better, that's a lnog game)
System Shock 2
Nocturne
Flashback
Fade to Black (sequal to Flashback)

For gods sake, Max constantly throughout the game says lines like..
'I keep hearing the words Time and Bullet, knowing they were just ment to be together.'

or

'I have this strange feeling my life is being controlled by someone pulling my strings.'

The game WAS NO SERIOUS. Noir as a format, yes is suppose to be serious when done correctly... like a whole Good Guy vs Bad Guy thing, but the fact is games like Under A Killing Moon, Max Payne, Discworld Noir; use it because it's very Over-the-top-Dramatics. It's not something your suppose to sit there and take seriously; but now doubt a hollywood director isn't going to understand that.

Max Payne was good, because it was cheesy. It was making fun of the format and of itself.

Ohhhh yeah..... that will rule

But you know how those Hollywood execs work. They always make their protagonist get jiggy with a lover right in the middle of running away from the enemy. Or they have a timebomb that will go off and with each second you hear a high-pitched BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, and it always has a big digital clock display. Just like in real life!

And don't forget escaping from the tunnel with just 1 second to spare as the mine explodes, causing the flames to chase the good guys as they run out of the hole!

Warcraft would make a good movie.

Humans... orcs... elves...

It'd be the next Lord of the Rings!

It'll be difficult to carry the film noir / satire over to film properly. If they take a Sin City approach to it, I think that'd do well

Heh, I forgot about the Silent Hill movie. IIRC Akira Yamoaka wouldn't sell the rights till he was garunteed his hand down the pants of every part of the movie (After seeing what happened to RE, I wouldn't let my game be sold off unless I had my hand down it all). So it may end up being Silent Hillish.

Max Payne was sort of a comedy with those "played" and "bullet time" references. The problem is, you can't really do that in a movie, you'll have to take the Sin City approach with it (Sin City being the best movie this year IMO).

Heh, i've always wanted to see a movie where they escape with 90 seconds to spare. Wonder what they would do with that 90 seconds? Maybe a game of DDR...

It'll have a dirty harry-esq tone, will it filmforce? umm... so why don't we all just go and watch dirty harry again? Anyway, there basically is a Max Payne film... in 1974, a film claled Deathwish was released, directed by Michael Winner... absolutly fantastic.

Actually its part 2 i think house of the dead is the first : dead aim is the sequel. I was thinking the same thing when i was reading about mortal kombat, cosidering how crappy the ones already made where why would anyone make another.

Oops, I didn't realise Dead Aim was the subtitle for the film, oh well.

The original Mortal Kombat film was pretty good, still one of the best films from a game that uses the game story. But MK: Annihilation was bloody awful! What I heard of the new MK film is that they're ignoring MK:A, a bit like what happened with Highlander 2.

I've read the screenplay, it's incredibly dramatic. Red L Block and Blue Cube Block have this really great romance throughout the movie too...

You mean Dead or Alive? I'd love to see that made into a movie, as the game makes so many hints to a storyline, but it doesn't tell you what the story actually is. So at the end of the game, after reading all the bits of conversations before and after a battle, ("I heard project Epsilon was a failiure.", to which Ein replies, "What is project Epsilon?" "I see you are no longer under mind control") there is only one question in the players mind: Huh?

A series of Worms short films (similar to the good ol' Tom & Jerry cartoons) would be great.

How about 'Pop Idol' the Movie?
