I personally saw no reason for that post to be locked Jess. I understand it might have been a duplicate, but I personally never venture into many other boards (apart from WIP and DLL Talk sometimes) and so wouldn't have noticed it anywhere.

The first I heard about the tutorials was from that thread too...

Just because it was locked doesn't mean people can't read it. They don't need to be able to respond to the locked one. It would be better if they responded to the original. And yes it did seem like an advertisement. Finally it's not the rest of the forums fault is some people

. That's why the forums have a search function.

sometimes you dont search for things because you dont know they exist. Sometimes its nice to just see something and think "Oh thats usefull"..

I dont wanna start an arguement, my point was that this forum is so massively large now, some people (such as myself) dont have the time to browse the entire thing all day on the chance something usefull might popup...

It's fair enough if you don't check the other forums, and that is what you were thinking when you posted the thread, Cucumber, however, we don't allow double posting.

The main reason is that people try to advertise themselves, get a big head, then start running a muck.

I can see that you wouldn't do it, as you're a respected member ( not a newb like others that have done it before ), so it's all good, but we can't make allowances.

As Keaz said, even though it's locked, it's still viewable ( hell, more people seem to look at locked threads than they do unlocked ones! ), so people can still access the link if they need to.

The main gripe I had with the double post, however, was that the original thread was in the Newsletter which is sent to over 10,000 people, I beleive... So double posting is saying to me "Hey, I've already got all these people looking, maybe I can get some more to look!"...

However, as I said, you don't seem to be that kind of person, and if you don't read the newsletter, my point is pretty much void.

I'll leave the thread locked, and will make the same choice again in the future, but I'll leave this thread open for discussion if you want to

Jess.

Jess is a pretty evil guy.

He once banned me because I compared his coding skills to a stool.

Jess has a point though! Although cucumber wasnt trying to be a big head there are reasons for the double posting rule. As long as you have posted it in the correct forum in the first place then theres no reason to double post else where.

What kind of stool? Bar stool, foot stool or stool sample?

If everybody decided their post wasn't getting enough attention and cross posted the forums would be full of duplicate content and less readable.

Plus there is nothing more annoying than spending five minutes answering a post only to find someone has allready posted the answer to the same thread in another forum.

listen guys, i have no intend to be the head guy asking everybody to test my code and say how great i am. just to mention that post is about a tutorial where every f*ckin body is askin about newton and the same sh*t all over and over..so i dont say my code is the best solution but might help somebody and yeah id surely need to advertise it on the most crowded part of the forum to make people see their answers lay on the codebase.
do not make me delete all my codebase entries now.
ehh..what the hell

Jimmy, Megaton... You guy's are totally crazy

James, and the_winch, that's pretty much the idea - You've got it

Cucumber,
There's no need to get all worked up about it.
What you're best off doing, is if you seen any more of those posts of people asking about Newton, link them to your thread... That's what the forum is for, and if they're too lazy to search for it, they need someone to link them.

(This is not the best example, as the thread is a sticky, however; )
I made the thread about the dbHelp files. It has gained alot of attention from the community, I beleive, and hopefuly will gain more.
Now, there is nothing I can do other than to wait for people to post in that thread - I wont double post, and I wont hijack other's threads to advertise.
However, what I am doing, is I have added a link to the subject in my Sig, and whenever someone asks for help regarding a topic that is explained in my dbHelp files, I link them to it, just as I suggest you should do with your Newton Tutes.

I don't wanna be an evil guy, or hold bias against anyone on the forum, which is what most people want. However, occasionally, treating everyone equal gets certain people upset.
In this case, I have treated you the same as everyone else, and locked the duplicate thread. If that makes you upset, then there isn't much I can do about it, as you did double post.

Jess.
