Hi,

Sorry if anyone has asked this already, I did some searching first but apologies if I missed it..

Does anyone here use the MS VC++ Toolkit, CodeBlocks (or similar) and the Dark Game SDK with success?

Free MS VC++ compiler/linker here btw...

It's the compiler and linker that are the important parts for linking to DarkSDK. The IDE that you use doesn't have *any* impact at all.

Summary: you should be able to use it.

One other thing - the compiler doesn't include the Platform SDK or the DX9 SDK, so you *will* need to download and install those too.

Getting tempted by the sdk are you Dylan ?

I did give this a quick try a while ago and did get it working, (although as already stated, you'll need to get hold of the other sdks) so it is possible. I've moved onto using the .net 2003 ide now though. Can't live without a debugger

is there a way to take the compiler out of an IDE that already has a compiler like Borland or something like that, and then to put the VC++ 7 compiler in?

@scooby ..yar, when I realised no debugger I decided to get hold of VS6.0.. and the DGSDK is now on order.. if things go ok I'll look at upgrading to .Net 2003 at some stage. I nearly feel like a 'real' developer, lol.

p.s. ah good point on the plat sdk, better kick off a download. I already had the DX9 sdk.

[EDIT] bugger, forgot the latest SDK didn't suppose VS 6.0 anymore, "This SDK does not support working with Microsoft Visual C/C++®, 6.0 as support for VC 6.0 has ended", so guess I need to track down/order the Feb 2003 SDK?

[EDIT2] Hang on, don't I just need the DX9.0b sdk and not the platform sdk? According the DGSDK system reqs.."Locally installed DirectX 9.0b (or higher) SDK", unless perhaps the plat sdk includes the dx stuff.

Cheers!

If you are getting VS6, then that will come with an older version of both the Platform and DX SDKs ... you won't need to update the Platform SDK, but you will need the newer DX SDK

Not that I know of. There may be an open source ide out there which can plug into any compiler, but I've not heard of one (I suspect the configuration would be pretty nasty).
