Ugh, once again after a somewhat lengthy hiatus I return to these forums in dire need of help. I tried to make that intro sentence sound as dramatic as possible, because you know me, I like a big entrance. Anyway, why doesn't Geoscape make BSP world files?!? I missed something while learning how to make maps, apparently. I can export the map as a DBM (darkbasic matrix) file, but I don't know how to implement this into the game. BSP's seem easier to deal with anyway. How do I export the map as a whole entity, textures and all, and dump it into the game?

I bought Character Shop a while back, and it turns out that we didn't need it. I didn't realize it was nothing more than a base for ridiculously-simple character animations. So instead we're using Anim8or to make the character animations. Please don't tell me that geoscape was another waste of money, hehe. It looks nifty, the world map we made in geoscape is awesome, and I *really* want this map to be the foundation of our game! We're half-way done with our "epic" MMOFPS and finding out the map won't be as pretty as the one we created would suck-diddly-uck.

Why not setup your level for a .x export optimized export model and texture from geoscape, then save a 8 bit grayscale from geoscape and use the 8 bit and texture file to make a advanced terrain instead.

I don't see an option for exporting as a .x All there is is export texture, export mesh, blitzbasic exporter, save as darkbasic matrix, export terrain as bitmap, HMP5 exporter, RAW exporter, export normal map, export terragen ter file, and export objects. I tried exporting the mesh but it didn't have an extension Also, if I do that, export the texture and the mesh, will it keep our wacky texturing? It's an entire planet, so the ground is made up of a lot of different colours and whatnot.

To export to a .x is a export to direct x mesh, export terrain as bitmap will give you a 8 bit or 24 bit grayscale texture.

You might not have the latest version go to help/about check for latest version button 1.2.0.16 is the latest but you could export any mesh blitz,3ds,mdl5 the type wouldn't matter since you don't use the model file i only suggest optimizing to reduce the terrains poly count before saving your 8 bit that your terrain is built from.

Don't really understand that but, yes if you export a mesh the texture is exported same as you see it in the editor or you can use export texture but i choose to optimize the terrain first because if you are saving a 8bit the grayscale it is blurred depending on the polys in the editor a very smooth level will create a very high poly terrain i usually use around 3000 to 5000 poly optimized terrains, i would suggest using edit/settings and setting your texture output size up from 256 to at least 1024 if it is a big terrain to keep the image quality up. You can also increase the size of the terrain by changing the edit/resize hight map size but 256 is usually large enough, 512 is a massive terrain.

someone else asked about terrains awhile ago and i posted a simple example of how any why i would use the optimize before exporting the 8 bit using a default texture.

just in case that last reponse made no sense.

Why not use this? With the new advanced terrain plugin, geoscape terrains can really shine

Thanks for the help! The world map is done... it looks all pixelated but I think it's because the texture output size is still too small, at 1024. It's an enormous map, though (like I said, an entire planet), at about 250x250 miles (okay, so it's a small planet, but name a bigger game made by an indie company and I'll buy you a coke ) Anyway, thanks again!
