Hey, Just to tell you that Ive been working on a set of tools to make my own 2D zelda fangame in DBPro... Ive worked on a map editor (where you can scroll, place tiles change tiles, see the x and y position and amount of tiles placed)

Also the main engine, with full 8 way map scrolling and 4 marker tile based collision... Im writing this all myself, I havent used any examples... Im going to be adding my sprites of link soon... When I finally get round to cutting them out in paint and turning them into proper strips...

Anyway enought talking, Some nice screenshots:

The Editor

And the Level in-game...

More shots (hopefully with link himself in soon)

Looks pretty good. Have you tackled hills yet?
Also- which Link will yours look like (ex: Link to the Past, The Minish Cap, Links awakening... etc)?

Nice!

One thing I toyed with was doing a top down 2d style thing (like your Zelda) - but have it all done in 3d. Having the grid as a matrix (shock, horror! ) and characters as planes. Would allow cool layered effects and really smooth effects such as smoke to leap out of the screen.

But I never actually finished it

Like cliffs and stuff that you can fall off of.

No - I gave up, too many texture seams were appearing Just a passing curiosity really.

Somebody did a zelda remake ages ago but I can't find it on my HD now. Shame.

Fair Enough, Im still working on this btw... Working on improving the engine and map editor...

Also working on adding things like Sword Slashing so that link can slash the grass tiles and a little leaves falling animation would appear

Ill post more updates soon

Good job.

I tried it also a year ago, with 3D on planes ... Here is a screenshot of the editor.

Good Luck with the rest.

I don't think I've ever made a project and not taken a screenshot without a player character before while in-game. Interesting. :p
