Won't be around for the next 3 weeks so please, don't be offended if I don't answer questions you've asked etc.

Lets just hope London isn't too chaotic...

Dad's got a business conference. Staying in some posh hotel for a week before touring BC and the Rockies

Don't know if we'll be able to meet - shame. Although by the sounds of things this won't be the last time we go (everybody we've talked to says 'be prepared to not want to go home').

Oh cool--- so right in downtown Vancouver?

You can visit EA on Howe Street Today's my last day working in downtown Vancouver, at the top of a building called Bentall One on Burrard and Hastings.

Have a great time, and don't forget to check out Playland. It's a large amusement park with roller coasters and other stuff. It's not as big as some American places, but it still has some freaky rides. And their claim to fame is having the oldest wooden roller coaster in the world, built in 1958. Rickety and freaky.

What else--- ummm... you can take the seabus over to Granville Island, it's very beautiful this time of year. And you can walk on the sea wall at Stanley Park.

If you're into large malls you can hop on the SkyTrain to MetroTown in Burnaby. There's a GIGANTIC arcade called Playdium there where you pay by the hour, but I'm not 100% it's still there so you'd better check beforehand. But they also have a huge theatre complex called SilverCity--- worth checking out a movie there.

What kind of Rockies tour are you taking? Sounds like fun!

EDIT:

First time in Canada?

Morning guys, or should I say evening?

Very nice city Vancouver - especially the skyline downtown. Woke up at 4am so I obviously have had a while to take in the scenery while waiting for breakfast to open

Is it me or does Vancouver look like it's been plucked straight out of Simcity?

Mouse - yeah it does remind me of Seattle a lot. And a few of the streets remind me of Market St. in San Francisco.

Overall a very nice place.

There's a PriceWaterhouseCoopers skyscraper that has an EA sign at the bottom of it. Anything interesting?

Vancouver - Kelowna - Banff - Calgary I think.

Yes. Didn't know what to expect. I'd heard immigration was a bit intense but the guy didn't look that bothered to be honest!

Very well thanks. Vancouver was very nice andd a businessmanlike at the same time. A nice place just to be around.

Wells Gray park was fantastic as well - some impressive falls there.

Saw a mother bear taking two cubs out to eat while on the highway (despite previous efforts going out at dusk etc, obviously best time to see is while on highway 5 near visitor centres!). It was amazingl;y cute - before some stupid germans got out of their car nad started shouting driving them away. I did take some video - I might upload it.

The rockies were very impressive, not only in grandeur but in how many Japanese they can fit in. They all donned face masks for the trip onto a glacier. :/

Oh and we drove through Abbotsford, but only fleetingly, I think we were on highway 1 at that point.

I might have a few snaps - Ill see later once I can be bothered to get them off the camera.

Wells Gray park? Hmmm never been to the Rockies--- I think I should go when I have a free week

That's cool about the bear. If you drive to the BC/Alberta border there's a city called Jasper, voted one of the most beautiful cities in Canada. There you can see bears, moose, elk, deer, goats, and all sorts of other wildlife walking down the streets and backyards like regular people. It's quite amazing having a herd of moose shaking the house at 3am

You drove through Abbotsford? Cool! Yah I've lived there since '91. It's one of those cities that grew up too fast, so while there are quite a lot of people, around 250,000+, it still has that "small" town feel with all the farms and cafes. I have to drive from Abby to Vancouver and back every day to work on highway 1

Would love to see the pictures if you have time.

Its not in the Rockies - about 2.5 hours north west of Kamloops.

Stayed there - didn't see any wildlife, unless you count the tourists...

Personally I found Jasper and Banff a bit too commercialised

Our final route was Vancouver - Hope - (Kamloops) - Clearwater - Jasper - Banff

(only stopped at kamloops, didn't stay).

Ouch! Was a bit slow when we drove

You're right about the small town feel. I was expecting a dense downtown etc. but it just seemed like we'd passed through ome staging post. I seem to remember there was a truck stop next to a butcher's advertising "pork butt steaks" and a retail park. I suppose on the highway you just skirt it though

Wow, quite a vacation I was born in Kamloops so I'm quite familiar with that area, but I have yet to visit Clearwater or Banff.

Quote: "Stayed there - didn't see any wildlife, unless you count the tourists...

That's too bad Perhaps the forest fires are scaring away the wildlife. That happened when I stayed in Jasper around this time in 2003--- a huge fire had just gone through that area and there wasn't a wild animal to be found. Sad, really.

And commercial--- yeah, I'm afraid that's the sad reality of it all. Something can't be the best little secret of the area to a large amount of people and expect to stay that way. Jasper has actually stopped production of all new houses quite a long time ago, so that has helped the climbing population. I'm lucky to have some family there to stay with when I visit
