I dont know where to post this but here goes...

For my puzzle competition entry Im making a game like asteroids, except you can only shoot asteroids of the same colour as you are...

So you have to fly around into bases to change colour... If you shoot asteroids of a different colour, You loose points.

Would this be considered Puzzle?

Im quite a bit into development so Im just checking...

I wouldn't call it a puzzle game - it wont require much thought...

Anyone know is this would be disqaulified?

Maybe I should add different coloured asteroids?

Then it would be more puzzle?

You dont need to continue development - could always upload it and let Rich decide whether it qualifies or not

hmm, maybe have asteroids of various sizes also, and add a plot objective that the solar system has too much mass and is collapsing on itself, and you have to shoot asteroids until a magic critical mass number is reached, only different colored asteroids react differently to whatever weapon you are using... like if you have a green laser, and you shoot a green asteroid, you destroy matter and drop the critical mass of the solar system, but if you shoot a blue asteroid with an orange laser, it doesn't get destroyed but increases its mass... and each time you change weapons, the effects on the asteroids changes randomly or in some pattern.

just a suggestion

If it helps I would count it as a puzzle game. A game doesn´t have to be made of blocks to be considered a puzzle game.

My opinion is that it is not a puzzle game but that doesn't mean you should stop development.
If it plays nearly as god as it looks then you have got a good game there.

@DBAlex: To be honest, if you're questioning if its a puzzle game then dont you think other people might too? I think you should continue development as even if its not a puzzle game, you've got a nice WiP there.. Maybe you could think of including something a little more puzzley than shoot the same colour? Some kind of mathematical one? Like you have a number you have to reach and when you hit an asteroid, it has a value based on its size and you have to reach the target number in either as few shots as possible or reach the target in a predefined number of shots? You could then make the levels harder as after each shot the mathematical function changes from + to - to / to * or randomly? Just brainstorming...

It's on the verge of being a puzzle. One more aspect (asteroid size, asteroids being moved around to destroy them, etc.) and it would probably be considered a puzzly game.

The great graphics might just get it in anyways, though.
