Hello all, I'm glad to be posting here. I am new, this being my first post, and I desired to create a few games using dark basic but FIRST I want to know if this is the software for me...

The first MAJOR game I want to create will be a 2D Sonic The Hedgehog style game. Of course sprites, perhaps 8 - 10 levels per character, special stages, hundreds of rings and enemies or active objects as you might call them. A few Bosses with powerfull AI and of course the powerfull animated effects. Also I would like to have animated weathering effects in the background so it can rain one minute, and be sunny the next... or turn from day to night... Also there will be exstensive MP3 music, hopefully some I will beable to make myself. There will be several powerfull sound effects, even the sound a foot step makes when hitting the grass and the liking. There might be VA's aswell as text telling the storyline as it comes... Lets not forget 2 player mode over the internet and exstensive downloads, mods, or plugins for the game...

That will be my first MAJOR game, can Dark Basic handle this? Can such events even be programmed?

My next few games will move into the 3D Platform consisting of RPGS with powerfull characters and an animated clothing system so they're not always wearing the same thing. Also I wanted a character creating system so there's not always one set character and I would also like to watch that character grow... The battles will always be Free-Mode style battles instead of RPG TurnBase style. They will consist of exstensive story plots and quests, and a LARGE world with many regions, and even ALTITUDE to explore... For instance there will be floating islands AND a ground world in one RPG...Lets not forget the possability of online play real time with other characters... Can Dark Basic handle this?

Last but not least I will move into the racing catagory where you can biuld your own cars and highly modify them and their engines or just drop new engines in. It will take place in a city and economy biult for such desires. A city sprawling with streets, subhurbs, mountains, expressways, lights, trains, people and biuldings... It will have 5...loadable subhurbs meaning you have to leave one subhurb or the city itself to enter the subhurb... Also will be including a possability for online play only... Lets not forget the need for varriant sounds as each car with each modification even the slightest bit difference can sound like a completely different car... The image in the attatchment is what the downtown area of the city ALONE will look like... Can DarkBasic handle this?

Thanks all for your patience and time it is greatly appreciated. Sorry if my ideas seem a bit too demanding but I just want to know what I'm getting into before I begin... Thanks...

ThE AnImAtOr,

The question is, can you handle creating such games? DarkBasic can handle it, up to your abilities. Rather, DarkBasic proffessional for more options and a better graphic engine.

Yeah you can pretty much make anything..

@Nanobrain,

Sure DBPro has more options, but you could say you could code out those options yourself, it's not impossible

Your signature has been erased by a mod because it's larger than 600x120...

Zotoaster,

When I speak of options, I mainly am relating to graphics.

Yes, these games are possible to create, but I would suggest starting simpler.

Weird = Unique. Unique = Human.

Yeah, I understand to start simpler with miniature games kind of deal because there's no way on earth I'd beable to just start off like that. I just wanted to know the coding and handling possability's of Dark Basic...

But curious what is the best thing to start off on?

The easiest game to start with is probably pong. Not much to worry about on graphics or sound, a fairly uncomplicated AI and mutliplayer. All the basics are in the game for making a better game and it allows for experimentation. Might try to add more to it as your programming skills get better.

To answer you orginal question. Yes, the 2D platformer could be done fairly easily. I'd suggest it next after pong. Next for the 3D ones. The race game is possible although a big step up in difficulty. Finally the RPG while possible will be extremely difficult, mostly do to the sheer size of the project. You'll need a lot of help on that.

If you are serious in your intent and think you can handle the aspects required:programming, creativity, artistic, sounds, etc.. I say go for it and I'd recommend starting with DB Pro you'll eventually need it's capabilities for your second 2 projects and it's not any harder to learn. BTW each of the 2ND 2 ideas would be years of work alone by yourself (getting a team after your first project would be recommended).
