How many web sites have you ever made, if it is your first then its OK but if you have made other ones then its a little shoddy. Try using frames it will make it look better and that background is neat looking but not good for a web site. Also make the navigation bar more interactive. If you need help I can give some.

This is my first one with more than 5 minents of work in it. What do you mean by frames The nav bar is preatty well set in stone because freewebs dose it automaticly. I can change the backgroud preattly easily.

I like that background it looks much better, just make your text darker. I attached a zip that has an examples of frames just click on the index.htm.

Put the counter on a separate statistics page or something and it will be perfect. I didn't see your other background, but it's rather easy to read as it is now, if you haven't darkened the text then that could just be my monitor. Simple is good.

If this is a freewebs template, then there is nothing to comment about.

If you made this yourself, I apoligize.
