Having spent far too long messing with the particle effects in my competition entry, I decided to write a program to make the job easier.

There are loads of particle systems, engines and creators out there already but how many are for DB Classic? Anyone checked this out?

If anyone has a need for a DB particle effects generator, I can make it available when it's finished...

I'll generate a few effects and post some screenshots so you know what it can do...

Looks pretty complete too...

Any chance of a download?

Looks can be deceiving...

I only started it yesterday and it does very little at the moment, (and what it does do, it doesn't always do properly)!

It's not even far enough advanced for the WIP board yet, but I'm happy for you to have a play with what there is so far.

I'll sort out a download for you...

OK, here it is so far...

As I said, as I only started it yesterday, very little works yet. When it's a bit more advanced, I'll post it in the WIP section.

The general idea is that once you have your particle effect as you want it, you would hit the save button and it would generate DBC code which you paste into your own programs. Obviously that's not there yet...

You would get a function to #include and away you go!

Using the generator:

To change values, simply click on the value. When you do this, the value will change colour.

Green values are integers. Use backspace to delete the current value and enter the new one.

Red values are real numbers. Alter in the same way.

After entering the new value, press the Enter key, the value will be accepted and it will change back to white.

That's it.

Man, that things sweet.. check this out, I made fire

I love the GUI too, though some of the buttons and stuff don't work..

@Eddie B

I thought it froze once aswell, but I think it's because I didn't press enter when i was changing the prferences.. I htink the apply button should work..

@TDK

I think it's ready for a WIP post, personally if I even made one particle rise I'd put it there lol..

Great job

Metrion:

Error 136 is 'Path does not exist', so I can only think that you didn't tell your unzipper/unrar program to preserve the directory structure.

Whatever folder you unrar to will contain a single exe and a folder called 'Particles' if you've done it correctly.

I've just uploaded V1.2, so try that one (on the Work In Progress board).

Metrion:

Excellent - well done. That's 20 bucks more than I made from MatEdit!

Uncle Sam:

1. Use the Build Matrix option.
2. Copy the created media and #include files into your game folder
3. Use #Include in your program
4. Change the matrix name in the LoadMatrix function call to load your matrix

There's an example program which shows you how to do it and it's covered in the instructions if you have any problems.

Finally, please, please please make any further posts about the Particle Generator in the post on the Work In Progress board - not here.

I won't be replying to posts in this thread any more as it's too confusing...
