Hi Guys,

Here's some info about a game I'm making...

http://www.cromwellgames.co.uk/products.php

There's still some of the stock content in there at the moment but I'm going to replace everything. When I'm finished I intend to sell the game and bundle full content packs for FPSC with it. These will include character models, A.I. scripts, audio, static models, segments and prefabs.

Take it easy,

Phil

Great looking game (From what I got to see) but your images on the site were far too big they to a liftime to load so I only got to see three or four in a long space of time.

Our aim is to keep the loo's clean, your aim can help.

Yes, your web site took WAY to long to load, even on a 2.5Mbps connection.

I didn't have any problems loading the site itself, but the screenshots took a while to load.
Anyways, it looks very nice. Is this going to be commercial or freeware?

One thing to look forward to:

Hey sorry about that, I updated the images in a hurry during my lunch and forgot to optimise them. They should be loads faster now.

I've not worked out pricing but it will be commercial. It will not be expensive however and you'll get plenty for your cash.

Thanks for taking a look.

I think I might buy this when released, it looks very intresting.
Nice to now it's going to be cheap too.
BTW, the pics load faster now, but they don't look that good. It looks like an FPS in EGA-graphics. Try resizing them instead of reducing the amount of colors.

Yeah, was a quick fix, the images have all been re-done so should look a lot better and still load in a reasonable time. There's a couple of new ones too.

Sorry you can't download yet, I'm aiming to have a public demo up by this weekend (30-31 July) so I'm busy cleaning up models, adding new textures, recording voiceovers and improving the A.I. Even then it'll be a quite basic demo as it will use the EA version.

Cheers,

Phil

I will have to say that looks very nice and promising. One thing. Not a bad thing but could cause you problems. You may want to remove the name of the device in the loading screen. I'm guessing that was just a scan which lead to a simple mistake. You may have to go generic on the device or try to create a piece of work from scratch for that. How about an MDA device, Mission Data Assistant?

>>> Are you still working on Spiderland?
Yes, but it was always going to be a long term project. I'm writting it in C++ and bending the Torque engine to do some unusual stuff, so its taking a long time to get it together. Nice to see some interest in it on here though.

>>> You may want to remove the name of the device
Yeah, hee hee hee, it was only in there as a temporary screen. It was actually replaced a couple of versions ago, was a bit too cheesy anyway.

>>> still waiting, can't wait to download demo
Sorry, I just want to iron out any nasties before I make it public. It's a commercial thing for me as I'm going to be selling the game bundled with content packs. Therefore I want it as smooth as possible. I didn't really intend to show anything until Ver.1. as the EA is so limited. "Les0985" if you email me I'll send you a demo phil.robinson@cromwellgames.co.uk

Have fun,

Phil Robinson.

Thanks,

I will be including some tutorials on the CD in the form of a PDF. This started out as a few notes on how to use the content packs but is growing more and more book-like by the day.

The CD will contain:

• The main “SOS – Urban Shadows” games obviously.
• New 3D character models for use in FPSC with multiple skins.
• Loads of new segments and prefabs all ready to use in FPSC.
• Loads of tiling textures, all original artwork.
• New 3D models (in .X .DBO .MS3D .3DS format).
• New weapons for FPSC.
• FPSC A.I. Scripts.
• The PDF book, “Creating First Person Shooters”.
• Some of my own tools, including a new version of “FPS Loader”, a wrapper for configuring and loading FPSC games.
• Various game development tools (demos, shareware and freeware).
• A demo version of FPSC, for anyone who doesn’t have it. (Providing I’m allowed to distribute it that way of course.)

It’ll be a while before everything is ready but I’m happy to answer questions so if there's anything specific you want to know, just fire away.

Have fun,

Phil

Yeah, I'm also waiting for V1 to release anything properly but I'm trying to make this the best game I can with the EA version, then when V1 comes out I have a half decent base to build on.

For me that was the reason for the EA, to get ahead of the game and build a stack of extra resources ready for V1 release. So whilst I'm eagerly waiting for V1, I'm still working hard with the EA

Acually, I would say I'm a fairly critical person of FPSC becaus eof flaws it has now, but you did an awesome job with what I see. I can't hear it right now, but I will soon and I hope the sound live up to my expectations. I like your gun...so sweet to have something that fires semi rapidly. You have to decrease the accuracy of the sub-machine gun though. it needs to function differently to be useful in different situations to add variety to the game. As is I would only run around with the assault rifle. Really good to see some good work. On other sugestion that I have:

Details, Details, Details. If I made a game with FPSC I would have a team of people (which I commend you for your awesome solo work) and I would have a person who's only job was to go through rooms adding small details, like the glasses at the bar, and made every room seem like it had an actual function. You have done better than most I have seen, but furniture and accessories would make this game REALLY stand out above the rest.

Really sweet stuff. Hope to see more soon.

The best thing to use for video capture of games is FRAPS. It's quite cheap and gets decent results.

Yeah, a model pack will be part of the package. As detailed above, I'll be releasing the whole thing as a packaged CD. This will contain everything I did to create the game and all the resources are free for you to use/modify in your own project, providing you bought it The whole thing will come as a content pack which is easily installed/uninstalled from your FPSC installation. Just to clarify on the disc you will get...

• The main “SOS – Urban Shadows” game (obviously).
• A demo version of FPSC, for anyone who buys the CD for the game rather than the content pack. ( Ahem )

Yeah, as stated above "(Providing I’m allowed to distribute it that way of course.)"

I'm assuming there will be a new demo released with version one and at that point I'll get our Business Development guys to talk to the game creators about how we are going to take a release forward. We have significant funds to be able to float this project if all goes well and I have no intention of breaking any copyrights or EULA's.

I've put together an internal project plan and included some marketing info but ultimately I'll leave all the business details to those more qualified. We intend to work in conjuction with "The game creators" not against them.

Cheers,

Phil.

This is excellent work! I enjoyed watching the video. If you can do this much with the EA, I can't wait to see what you work out when V1 is released.

My only suggestion would be to create a more advanced HUD.

Please take a look at some of my AI scripts... I'd say that they are much better then the current, but I don't have any serious AI script training so it isn't great, on top of that the FPI language is pretty weak.

cromwell, can you provide more screens, I don't have the capabilitys to get video footage ATM.

Cromwell,

It says on your site that you will be able to buy FPSCreator directly from your site. I'm sure that you did, but how did you get permission to do that (not that I want to or anything, just interested)?

Well, as I intend to sell FPSC related products from my site including content packs and other supporting materials. I thought it would be nice if I could also sell FPSC itself so I contacted the Business Development guys at "The Game Creators".

I think most companies will allow you to sell their products if you agree to purchase a certain amount of stock. I'm just acting as a retail outlet. I'll probably sell it alone aswell as in a bundle with some of the content packs.
