Also; Did the newsletter say there would be a new website, or was that my imangination?

What would have happened if the forums shutdown permanantly? I can already see Mouse rocking back and forth in his chair with his arms wrapped around his knees.

Rich, it doesn't qualify as "IMMINENT" unless the server change is with a few hours, as opposed to 24+ hours

Edit: I just noticed that a bunch of files I recently attached to messages weren't copied to the new server. :-(

New server is actually kinda slow on my end compared to alot of the other sites i'm browsing. Or maybe its just IE7... funny thing is the ping is fine, just slow in browser. So maybe it's just me.

Have been re-starting Apache quite a bit over the past hour trying to trap some errors, but will leave it be for now. Give it time to settle down. Have enabled gzip and it's flying down the pipe now. Much quicker page loads from here (UK). MailBacks aren't working at the moment, but I'll delve into the error logs tomorrow and work out why - too late now and I've an FPSC video to prep.

Much faster so far - specially now that green message bar thingy at top of page has now gone.

PS UK users need to change time offset to +6 hours in case you can't work it out!

The green flash ticker shouldn't make any difference at all! But I can't be arsed to add it back in, so it can stay gone for now.

Working alot better now. It is pretty damn fast I must say. Though firefox renders (is that the word for it in the web design world?) it a bit faster then IE7 it seems... only by a slight bit though (not to start a war or anything... just a follow up to what i said earlier... besides, the page looks better in IE7).

It's an AMD 64 Athlon 3200+ server with a gig of RAM and a very fast hard drive. The extra memory helps Apache and MySQL cache, the gzip compression helps everyone other than ancient browser users and the new network location should help just about everyone (other than people in France, sorry!) - I pumped it up with PHP 4.4.0, which is the absolute latest version, and added some judicious lib tweaking. New box is even running daily updated anti-virus software, so all user attachments are scanned before being saved. I virus scanned the lot when moving over from the old server and was pleased to see not a single one had a virus Aren't you all good? All in all took about 4 hours of configuration and 2 hours of code changes.

I've increased the file attachment limit from 1MB to 10MB, mostly because we've got a terrabyte worth of bandwidth to play with every month *just for the forum* Direct Savvis Tier-1 connectivity, 100Mbps uplink, beautiful.

Tomorrow I'll configure our new file server (a fully stacked RAIDed beast) - we're gonna need it with FPSC V1 nearing completion.

Cheers,

Rich

The French comment was because the old server was hosted in France, so I hope would have been pretty speedy for people located there. This one is in Texas, so is bound to be a little slower for French people than before, but probably not much.

The server is TOO fast...

If I go back shortly after reading the last message, it will say that I didn't read that message... Took a while before I realized that.

10MB ATTACHMENTS!!! that is Generious... almost too generious...

Do you block new users uploads? 10MB sounds VERY exploitable...

Actually, I was gonna say it does seem a bit slower tonight but I thought perhaps it might be just my connection playing up again.

It's a DELAY???

Looking closer, it appears that it isn't that I am receiving data before it is completly processed (doesn't make much sense anyways) but I am receiving data before ANYTHING is processed...

I don't know what to say... it is just very weird...

Yay!

One small thing, though, now that the server time has changed, I am on +15, but the drop-down only goes to +12

I'll get confused...
