It's an AMD 64 Athlon 3200+ server with a gig of RAM and a very fast hard drive. The extra memory helps Apache and MySQL cache, the gzip compression helps everyone other than ancient browser users and the new network location should help just about everyone (other than people in France, sorry!) - I pumped it up with PHP 4.4.0, which is the absolute latest version, and added some judicious lib tweaking. New box is even running daily updated anti-virus software, so all user attachments are scanned before being saved. I virus scanned the lot when moving over from the old server and was pleased to see not a single one had a virus
Aren't you all good?
All in all took about 4 hours of configuration and 2 hours of code changes.
I've increased the file attachment limit from 1MB to 10MB, mostly because we've got a terrabyte worth of bandwidth to play with every month *just for the forum*
Direct Savvis Tier-1 connectivity, 100Mbps uplink, beautiful.
Tomorrow I'll configure our new file server (a fully stacked RAIDed beast) - we're gonna need it with FPSC V1 nearing completion.
Cheers,
Rich
