Helloooo,

OFFICAL DEMO RELEASE
31st October - The Greatest Halloween Treat Ever!

Whizz over to the last page for BRAND NEW SCREENSHOTS of the AMAZING NEW ENGINE complete with your first preview of ENEMIES!

EDIT

!!!!HEH HEH HEH! NEW SCREEN SHOTS!!!!

SCROLLY DOWNY!

You might remember a game similar to this that I posted here a while ago, done in DBC called Mysterious Woods.

Well, I dumped that project because it was badly coded and hard to work with. I recently accquired DBP and a nice new speedy computer and wanted to start a nice BIG project, so I started this!

Its much better coded than the old game and has lots of cool features, Dungeons, Massive Worlds, Smooth Night & Day transitions (the hardest part yet!) and a full scripting system to make things a lot easier for me!

Enough talk! On to the screen shots!

I'm working on a story at the moment, then I have to script it all and finish some various things such as dungeons and magic powers.

I'm hoping to get it all done by the end of the summer holidays (early september), i'm moving up into year 10 to it will be hard to maintain a massive project like this with all the GCSE course work, so I'm working my ass off trying to get it done now!

Hope you like the look of it!

EDIT: Some of those tags were wrong... bleh

Looks pretty good and the cocept is great(with the talking lampost and all),
But once it is completted I suggest you go back and clean up the graphics a bit it looks a bit too blocky.

Our aim is to keep the loo's clean, your aim can help.

A simple 'set object smoothing Id,100' would sort that.
Looks nice.

Looking very nice Pricey, lots of orginality going on. I remember your older project, and this one definitly shows off a lot more polish. Good to see you've gotten DBP as well, for that will increase performance immensely!

Keep us posted.

Looks great Pricey!
Your getting better at coding all the time; I remember your old project too, and that looked promising. This looks great! Lots going on...

You might want to look into 'set matrix trim' to get rid of those grid lines on the level's matrix.

If you'd like, I've got a bit of code for the matrices that could make them look a whole lot better, add shaded areas (for nighttime) and respond (I think) to your streetlights?

The lampost thing is funny.
Hope you keep working on this.

Looks Good, But I dont like RPG's really... And it seems im being choked with them atm... (A LOT of RPG's in WIP)

Like other people said the character is a bit blocky, So use the set smoothing on command!

talking lampposts is original, and silly, but not pathetic, the only game I've played with stupid ideas in RPG's is Baulders gate, with the killer geleton cubes, lol oh no I'm gonna die in jelly!
Talking to lamposts is perfectly sane, I do it all the time, 'hey lampy, hows the weather up there?'

Oh man Seppuku, that hurts...you can't diss Mr. Jelly, he's been around since heck I dunno, some edition of AD&D. Heh heh, just messin'.

I like the talking lamp post idea too, games need more innocent fun like that. It's no less insane than other games: talking glowing white flying fairy ball, calling your guardian/mentor person with a piece of bacon, talking owls, rocks that tell you what time it is...okay the only non-Zelda reference is the bacon one but it's still good, can't wait to play!

thanks everyone.

i'm in a cyber cafe in keswick right now, so i can't work on my game for a while but i've done a lot of village designs!

could you e-mail me that code, drew? much appreciated
i'll try the matrix trim and the other smoothing command.

the models are indeed downloaded from this website but i re-skinned some of them. the models from this site are all wooden, i have some stone buildings to add a little interest

features i will be coding soon:

COLLISION!!!
enemies & dungeon engine completed
shops, houses and a money system

then i'll have to script everything and do some nice villages.

the story is all written (yay)

thanks for all the nice comments peoples!

@Pricey;

Looking really good

One little suggestion+ a question though

Suggestion: Don't put the 'do you want to leave the village'question in. I know its the traditional type of RPG thing, but its kinda of pointless (if you try and leave the village, it should just leave the village)

Question: How are you doing the buildings? I mean, are you modelling each one separately, or another method? Do the buildings have interiors?

Anyway, keep up the good work

In the storyline is he gonna be keeping some secret

I like to see the screenShots.. it is looking good =]

[edit]yep good stuffed threads are my bet =D I hate
to open a thread and see that there is no progress yet..
And you're about to release a demo.. really good work, dude =D

i guess its the way you did it, I guess the way I thing of making em is easier, mind you, urs is differant from looks, all I do is make the object a variable, if it exists its on the inventory if it doesn't its not there, and you can select it from the menu via keyboard, initially I use specific places for each object, but to list them won't be hard, with a way I got in my head, I just need to apply the idea. not too hard

gah, i upgraded my version of dark basic which introduced all sorts of bugs into the game :S

5.8 won't run on my pc (for some ODD reason) so i had to put a seemingly very buggy 5.7 to enable me to use the matrix trim and smoothing commands and had no ends to problems relating to ghosted objects

i think i've fixed most of the problems now, but its set me back a little!

screenies soon!

These beautiful shots show a few new features, inventory, house
interior houses and the guy's back is a lot smoother and the matrix is without its ugly lines. Also the ambient light looks more natural I think.

The world map, quest status other stuff isn't finished.

When you're in a house you can't move around, its just too much fussss. The peoples in there talk, and thats it. Its actually quite good.

I've done more stuff that you obviously can't see in a screenshot like ambient sound and lots of cool music that I think really fits in with the game. Footsteps are buggy at the moment though!

I fixed loads of bugs too and I upgraded DBPro and it seems a lot
faster, which is nice

Well, what do you think?

@ ArcAngel - Its around 1300 lines not including the world editor. Har Har, longest program I've ever wrote (i think). Its gonna grow A
LOT more than that because the proper script isn't even started yet!
Heh.
