Damn.. Seemed to fail to post the first time! Oh well - here goes again!!

I'm starting work on a board-game conversion of a game called Settlers Of Catan.

It is being based on a freeware version available at (when the site is back up) here, or alternatively Home Of The Underdogs has a copy...

Basically, its a trading/resource management/builing style game.

I'm mainly posting at this early stage of development (1 night) as I'm interested to hear if anyone has actually heard of it!! So far there is me, a Danish girl who introduced it to me in my 1st year of uni and my girlfriend whoe know of it through me!

I find it a really addictive and fun game

I attach a screen of development so far. Currently I can highlight specific tiles and I have dont the maths involved for selecting which side of a tile to place a road...

Very first screenshot

Latest screenshot of development

One thing I am short of, though, is artistic talent. I am currently using the nice images that are in the freeware version mentioned above. I tried emailing him to ask his permission but the mail got bounced. Is there are good artist out there who would provide me with the textures needed? The onyl need to be simple. If you see the screenshot, you'll know what i mean. I can provide you with a Paint Shop Pro 9 template. It would be appreciated. No money involved - Its gonna be freeware, but your name would go down in history as one of the greatest contributors of all time! Hehe.. Btw: This is not a TEAM request - just wondering if a kind soul would lend a hand

Anyway - enough of me going on.. Lemme know what you think.

I did some work on it last night - I'll try to get another upload of it tonight, I have basically been working on laying roads..

One thing I would still like it replacement textures. The ones I'm using I have ripped from the link I gave at the begining - I tried to contact him for permission but he has changed his email Currently those textures are just placeholders.

Nick

EDIT: His site is currently back up - I'll email him now

Ok - a few updates, Firstly you can "lay" roads down on the tiles. There is sometimes overlap of roads, i'm looking into that...

The camera movement is much improved. Basically, when you move the mouse, the pointer is the place you want the camera to focus on and the mouse pointer moves with it.. you'll see when you try it!

EDIT:
New screeny..

EDIT 2:
Also, try rolling the mouse wheel (assuming you have one)

Yeah.. I think that's probably due to the way I do the mouse movement.. I'll look into it tonight. Cheers for finding that

Have you played the origional yet?

Updates:
Camera movement sorted. There are now artificial boundaries so you cant go too far. You can also move the mouse off the map without it screwing up
Made a factory model. Looks crap dont it I am going to try to UV map it and texture it when I get some time.
Used the new 5.8 Compiler thingy to remove some DLL's so the download is a smidge smaller now

Also a new screeny

Here is the download:

WOOT!! SOMEONE ELSE HAS HEARD OF IT!! YAY!

Has anyone else heard of it or tried my game above?

What do people think of the control method for moving the camera?

Are there any artists that might wanna help me out with the tile textures?

I have TreeMagik and I was thinking of making the Tree tiles have little 3D tree models on them. Was also considering making the stone tiles be like a 3D mountain. The hay/straw ones could be like wavey yellow grass.. Anyone got a model of a sheep?! Hmm.. Brick tiles.. Wonder what I could do there?!

I know the game well Very addictive. I have it often played with some friends. (I guess this game is in Germany better known as in UK) But i know there is already a pc-game called settler of catan (at least in ger) -> maybe a good inspiration

Good luck with this Game
