Right, cos I'm bored I thought I'd just ask people what their favorite fighting game is and why. Doesn't matter what platform it's on, just tell me please because this could develop into something interesting.
My favorite at the moment is Smackdown v.s RAW for PS2, because it is so true to real - life. I think the graphics are spectacular, and although the controls are hard to start with, they grow on you. Soon enough, Slamming your foe through a table from 20 foot in the air becomes second nature.
Yeah yeah, in reality it's fake, but it doesn't stop the game from being fun to play. The creation modes are fantastic, but the game really shines through in multiplayer mode. Having a scrap with 5 of your mates using your favorite wrestler is one of the best ways to spend a Saturday. Or anyday for that matter.

Nyty.

My favourite is also the ultimate: Dead or Alive 2 for the DC. If DoA4 comes out for the XBox360 I'll be sure to get my hands on the game.

Dead or Alive 2: Ultimate for Xbox and like TKF15H I will get DoA 4 on the 360.

Edit: Sorry, I missed out why.

I like the way that everything in the game is counterable, no one can use particularly 'cheap' tactics as long as you are fairly good you can defend yourself against anything. Also I like the online play and the general feel of the game.

Also Tomonobu Itagaki (the creator) is a generally awesome guy.

Haven't played a whole lot of games in my life, but I would have to say Halo2 for the Xbox because the many different weapons, vehicles, customizable playing modes, etc...

I also really like Mercenaries for the Xbox, just played that game and its very fun(although it can get boring after too long).

Tekken was a game that you couldn't win just by busting the controller against your forehead. I think that says enough.

I don't have to say why I like DOA. It is the Ultimate fighting game, the reason is implied.

Nonsense - I never played the damn thing before when I walked upto a stand at some fair where they were holding a tekken competition some years ago and entered a ladder which I won, pretty much by bashing buttons

I am a fan of the 2D beatem ups. King of fighters, guilty gear, etc.

I would of probably said one of those was my favorite fighting game.. but I recently got king of fighters - maxium impact for my ps2 and its sweet as you like. Damn awesome transfer from 2d to 3d, its my fav atm.

@ Megaton Cat: Yeah, I think the Tekken series is the best fighting series ever, because you needed skill to win. (well, most of the time anyway...)

@Leys: Fighting game!!! Halo 2 is classed as a FPS.

@Merranvo: I haven't heard of Nada III before, could you give me some info on it?

Please could ppl sitck to the guidelines, that way the thread will be more interesting.

Thanks,
Nytmayre

Oh. Well I`ve got to say I like DoAU (Though I haven`t played Tekken 5 so I don`t know how it compares). The counter attacks make the game far more balanced and also cause the funny situation where a highly skilled player can defeat a newbie just by counter attacking and dodging(Like when my bro defeated me a few times). In the realm of 2d Street fighter third stike is great. The characters are just so well animated...and so many frames.Like 300 frames for an idle animation!( Ok so most of that is repeated but it`s still impressive) Just so beautiful.

Gimme teh votez!!!!

DOA2: Hardcore for the PS2 or Soul Blade for the PSX. I can never decide, I like them both for different reasons.

My god, I actually thought that everyone would instantly reconize that.

'Fighting' is typically catagorized under button mashers, times have changed though, and 'to fight' now means to pull out a gun and shoot the guy in the head. Oh well.

DOA2 for the PS2. Unfortunately it's the last DOA for the PS2. I basically like it because I love to see T&A bouncing around while fighting... and the panty shots are nice.

Game: Xmen Versus Street Fighter
Platform: Sega Saturn

Why: X-Men characters beating up Street Fighter characters in a tag-team game of Capcom's traditional OTT 2d, amine style fighting, and no Sakura in sight!

No, but liking a game purely for the girls is boarding on it.

There are two favourite:
The King Of Fighters 2000 (NEO Geo)
Tekken 3 (SONY Playstation)

The king of Fighters is very rich and has nice graphics.. And I love Wipe.. 2000 version is the best.. but there is no Yamazaki in that
Tekken 3: I really like those combos with "King"; Lei Wolong is amazing..

That's a tough one to deny!

I can't remember the name, but you picked a dojo to train at. After defeating your master you fight the other schools/dojos. Fighting is complex in that a 9yr old kid can't come up and randomly hit buttons to kick your butt.

Soul Calibur 2 but it will probably be replaced by Soul Calibur 3, the reasons being I've played alot of fighters except the first soul calibure ( ) and love the weapon fighting.

I've got Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo on the Saturn, it's pixel perfect to the arcade version but doesn't match up to X-Men Vs Street Fighter. Sorry, that's my opinion, although I'm still trying to get my hands on Street Fighter Alpha 3.

I would go with Soul Calibur 2. Would Super Smash Bro. Melee count?

Best fighter: Super Street Fighter 2

Why: All the fighters are evenly balanced, and the gameplay is silky smooth and fast. The reason why I didn't choose any of the more recent street fighters is because the introduction of the super combo attacks, spoils the skillful nature of the game; plus I like the old drawing style of the characters (Blanka is far too big now!).

I also like the Tekken series; Tekken 5 is brilliant altough Jinpachi is a cheating twat.

I still have a soft spot for "Fighting Force". It was one of the few genuinely 3D fighting games. By that, I mean that a lot of games now claim to be 3D fighters (DOA, MK: DA, Soul Calibur etc) but you can't stroll around a street, or a shopping mall, beating the crap outta people.

The highlight of the game was that character's headbutt. *Smack* Excellent special move, and the crunch sound was just perfection.

One of the first few things I wanted to do with DBP (over 2 years ago now) was try my hand at a 3D fighting game. It's just tooo damn hard: Very labour intensive and the results were never very satisfying.
