As you may or may not know, there are only just under 3 months to go for the UK convention (kindly organised my moi). Ergo, we need questions for the "Ask The Expert" section.

By question, I mean something at least partially sensible to bombard Lee, Mike and anyone else who wants to answer, with. Preferably DBPro related too.

There is no point e-mailing them to me (as I've got no computer of my own - they've all been nicked - again), and access to my sisters computer is sporodic (and risk filled too - there are cornflakes wedged between the keyboard keys). So, post semi-sensible questions here, and I'll collate them all when I can.

If you could have done one thing different while developing DBPro, what would it have been?

What did you want to be when you grew up?

What qualifications do you have / how did you get into industry?

What is DBPro's line count?

Is it possible to give us a peek at just a few lines of dbpro's source code? (pleeeeeease )

The font 'Arial': air-ree-all (as in Ayr, scottish town and the atmosphere) or ah-ree-all (hard a sound, as in trAp)

If you could do one software project in the world apart from things similar to TGC's business interests, what would it be?

sorry they're only marginally dbpro related but I still think they are worth asking

"A book. If u know something why cant u make a kool game or prog.
come on now. A book. I hate books. book is stupid. I know that I need codes but I dont know the codes"

The most important question of all...

How did you fix and then breaking the collision system? It was rather perfect in DBP 5.8 SDK version and is totally useless in 5.8 public IMO.

Coming in at DB 1.08, and not joining the community until just before the AlienWare compo, I'm not fully up with how you guy's got started. So, what were your intentions? Just an experiment, and something fun to code? Or did you set out right from the start to make a BASIC game making language?

How many games ( honestly ) have you made in DB/DBP? Other than the obvious FPSC and the like.

Where do you think the future of making games lies? Is it with the massive Dev-houses? With the indi coders? Or with the middle-of-the-road businesses that have the best of both worlds; Business and love of games?

When codeing, what's your favourite thing to be doing? Do you like to sort out logic errors? Work on things that take you hours and hours to do a little tiny important snippet that makes you go "Ahhh!" when it's done? Getting the graphics to sync with the game? Creating new exciting features?

How ergonomically concious are you when codeing?

Music or no music when concentrating?

Ever sit and stare blankly out of the window, not thinking of a single thing and just wait for the answer to pop into your head?

Given that DBC and DBP are fundamentally the same thing, but each written completely seperatly; Would you describe DBC as being a project where you worked on features until they were complete, then start a new one? And would you describe DBP as being completely goal-oriented where you aim to complete a set amount of features for the language before anything else is considered?

I know about the Pizza... But what kind?

Ever been on a holliday for so long that you've actually craved programming again?

... Alright, that's all I can think of.

Shame I wont be there, wish I could

Be sure to record the answers on a voice recorder, then type it up for all to see ( well, for me at least )

Good one... may I add a following question to that -

Have you ever had RSI?

I think the kinds of questions that are called for are how the group (at the con) would go about attacking different kinds of problems, not things like "What kind of pizza does Lee eat" etc.

Hopefully I will have my camera and will be able to record this and put it on the internet after the con, providing all people there consent to this.

So ask something you would benefit from seeing answered!.

Ok;

Not really any benefit from asking this, but its still nice to know;

Apart from the obvious upcoming physics pack, what other developments on DBP can we expect to see over the next half-year/year? Is a 'Dark Basic 2' looking likely?

Im sure this question will be more than answered over the time of the con. I will hopefully be catching much of it on video, but for those who would watch the video, I strongly urge you to turn up in November, its great fun.

I'm getting a bit bored of DBPro related questions. If you ask "when will dbpro 2 come out" they'll say "We have full commitment to dbpro right now, we are happy with the extensible nature of hte langhuage and have no current plans to replace it".

It's all been asked too many times before. Why don't we have some, ahem, more unusal but just as informative questions (hint: my first lot of qs above)

ask him if he likes potatoes and get into a conversation like

'I like potatoes'
'i like cereal'
'Si, I like Potatoes'
'I like cereal'

and then get drunk, dance on tables, sing song outta tune and other silly things like trolly riding competitions around tesco where you can place bets and when the police catch you well you can always 'Blame Beer'

I think a generic question, which has probably been asked before would be:

Your homegrown product range and "decentralised" office environment seem to prove that stereotypical bedroom businesses can succeed, assuming you're not all crippled by mortgage-secured loans, that is. What advice would you give to us software monkeys, aspiring to set up shop one day?

Now you can spare us the worthless platitudes along the lines of "work hard and believe in yourself". I want people to talk to, things to think about, timescales, for how long were you working unpaid if at all? Is it all just about "right place, right time"?

Just some thoughts,

well work hard and believe in your self works, I would go for

do what ever you can to be on top and push yourself so you can be better than everyone around you (the thing is you'll never be beter, butrying to make it better than others is a motive to put your best in that works better than 'believe in yourself')
