It seems that the Mozilla Foundation is creating a for-profit branch. This could mean that they might eventually start charging for Firefox and Thunderbird and/or they might become closed-source in the worst-case scenario.

Well it is actually a buisness tactic.

Realease the full product, get lots of loving customeres, then start charging for the updates.

I was under the impression that Firefox is not going commercial, they're simply switching their open source business model to be more profitable for the programmers. There's nothing paradoxical about it really
