Just got done playing this baby for the first time through. I must say that this game kicks royal ass.

Are both options to get it, but both are going slow as hell right now. I grabbed it off of the torrent offered from the VUGAMES tracker, which i'll attach to this post.

683mb and it is rated mature. Release date is still sometime in October. Nice to see a company releasing a demo before the actual release, like it was in the old days though.

Is it worth the download though?
I've only tried the Multiplayer version so-far which quite frankly sucked and didn't really run at a very reasonable speed.

Loading times in particular were ridiculous and caused me many time outs trying to get in to games.

Here's my computers specs:

Athlon 2800
GeForce FX 5200 128MB
512MB RAM
80GB HD

It plays Doom 3, Half-Life 2 and Battlefield 2 (on low settings) with a respectable and playable framerate. However, the frame rate on this was so poor I just couldn't play it - so were the textures. Things got so bad that the voices actually slowed down and sounded as if someone had put them through a synthesiser!

AMD64 3200+
9600xt
1024mb
120gb 7200rpm

Loads faster than doom 3, plays better then doom 3 on 1024x768 with medium almost everying, except for FSAA, which is off. Physics are on Maximum, shell casings on. Constant 40 FPS throughout the whole level.

Never did try the multiplayer version, as I never like these type of games multiplayer.

http://gear.ign.com/articles/639/639790p1.html was actually a pretty good guide for the settings (and it was IGN, which sickened me ).

Right. So you mounted the motherboard, pushed in any cards, and screwed in a CD/DVD ROM and HDD then plugged in all the cables? Way to go! You're my idol!

Btw, who's to say Killswitch bought a ready-made PC anyway? Almost everyone I know 'builds' their own.

just played the demo.
it's alright, ran alright most of the time, some areas killed the speed dead.

it's interesting but it doesn't really build up the tension and atmosphere. atleast i don't think it does anyways.

in games that are suppose to cause tensions and fear i've often found the best design isn't to have a roller-coaster ride, but you can truely make even the bravest people need a new trouser change with what your not letting them interact with.

Enemies that your just in an all out fire-fight with aren't scarey. Atleast not in my experience. The reason I found Doom quite chilling was because of the Imp and Trites.

I know it sounds stupid, but both of them were able to crawl along walls, and attack from any angle. But what got my hear pimping more was you'd have the ambient sound of them when they're close. The tapping of thier feet/hands on metal wizzing past or stalking you.

That would put me more on edge than the actual fighting itself.
It's why Resident Evil and Silent Hill are so awesome, they make you guess more about what's going on.

Rather than the ridiculous number of weapons, seriously I came across the same number of weapons Doom 3 has in total within 20minutes of Demo play. I'd prefer to see some realistic damaging weapons, with fewer of them. Less ammo meaning you can't unload a clip into a bad guy and be 'lets pickup some convienently place ammo, more than any soldier in real-life would ever have'.

I dunno, I'm getting bored of the Horror titles comming from the Doom 3 Engine. I mean Doom 3 was alright, that was like B-Movie Horror, which is so bad it's good. However then you have these 'serious' games trying to do it and really failing.

What the heck's wrong with stuff going bump in the daytime?
Some scenes in Half-Life 2 during the daytime areas scared the crap out of me. You don't expect to walk into a house and come face to face with an electromine that was hiding in that cupboard you just had to fling at the wall with your gravgun.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, I wasn't really impressed.

The AI looks improved, until you realise it's only improved enough so they jump over things. They still seem to randomly do Morris dancing around a pillar when your aiming at them.

I don't have a ready made PC, but I didn't build it myself. A friend of the family has his own buissness so he's built all my computers as he can get parts at wholesale prices (I think thats the right word).

Don't feel bad... we're in the same boat.

I remember a long time ago when my family bought a new computer (our 4th computer). It was top of the line.

16mhz
2megs of ram
20meg hd
640x480 256colors

Ah... NOTHING could beat it.

Caused so many problems on my PC... but my hardware's crap so that's my fault.

Anyone else watched the GameSpot gameplay videos? I thought the jumping imp-thing was cool.

Well, games are better now with higher quality graphics, it's expected that they'd get larger, likewise, our hard-drives now hold more space and our internet speeds have increased. Everything's evened out.
