Hey all,
Don't really know why I'm posting this but here goes. Blender is a free 3d modeller, and a pretty good one at that. If you want to learn how to use it (it's got a really unique interface) then you can buy a big fat book about it (much like you can buy that big fat book about DB). Anyway, I did this, and it arrived in the post yesterday, it's got some top class stuff in, the very first step-by-step model type one tells you how to model, texture and animate a really dudey looking gingerbread man (not done much yet, just got the basic model sorted).

But enough of that, for some reason I've never really stuck to any of my projects, which is the main reason, after being here for almost 2 years I've still not finished a proper game and only made 2 codebase entries. I've decided to take time out from coding and try and get into high poly modelling and short animations. I'm off to Wales (woo bloody hoo) 'till Wednesday tomorrow but when I get back I'm going to be all set to get crackin' and enter the big wide world of, well, high poly 3d modelling, and short animations. Of course I won't be leaving the forums (might be a good thing, might not) just spending more time doing what I think I'd enjoy more. Wish me luck (if you want to)

p.s. Some of you may remember a while ago I posted in the 3d modelling board about short animations, well here's the proof, your advice wasn't a complete waste of time, I'm going to do it.

p.p.s And keep an eye out for my dudey little gingerbread man.

cool, good luck with it, I see this means no rush programming then? I'm okay with that, I mean I'd love to see watcha come out with, so I'll be waiting on the 3D chat section, considering u join 3DW, i think you could post on there too, well being a first go, I think it might be a good idea to keep it here, but if the book is as good as you say, well I expect something nice outta ya, and if you prove out well, I might get one of those Cinema 4D books, I just gave a go at a blood spurting animation, and well it didn't look realistic enough, maybe it I make the metaball percentage a little higher...

@Hawkeye: Thanks

@Seppuku Geijutsu: Yup, I registered on the 3dworld forums but there's some seriously high class modellers on there and I feel a little out of my depth. I've found elysiun, which is a really friendly community all about blender. The main reason I got the book is because I just like to have something to read through when I'm away from the peasea without printing off pages and pages of tuts and I just find it easier to read from a book than a screen when trying to leanrn something.

Lol, if I learn enough about 3d I might actually understand what you just said, although I tell a lie, you told me about metaballs over msn once and I still haven't forgotten.
