Hi
My bro needs a laptop for England. I`ve been looking around and I`ve found this one:
http://www.digiuk.com/productdetail.asp?id=4812
I think it`s the best for under a 1000pounds. I was just wondering if you guys think it`s ok. He`s going to be going to coledge and back with it so batery life isn`t a must as he`ll only use bateries during lunch brake and whatnot. It needs a decent grahpics card and a gig as he`ll be running Maya. It needs a nice screen as he`ll be drawing and whatnot on it. So I thought this one was perfect. It`s also the cheapest site I found.
So what do you guys think? I`m not sure about the hd myself. I would have prefered a faster smaller one.

Quite a few good reviews about it on the net. Only downsides appear to be the fairly slow hard disk and the loud fan noise when machine is under load. My laptop also has a fan which is quite noisy when playing games but you get used to it after a while but initially you feel annoyed you bought a noisy laptop but if you want a powerful graphics card in a laptop you have to have a noisy fan.

Boo!

I've actually got two of those - and they are very good. I do feel that Acer's laptops are extremely good for the price and hi-spec.

15.4" screen, 128Mb X700 PCI Express graphics card and 100GB hard drive (which isn't noisy).

The only downside is that the left, right and middle mouse buttons in front of the touchpad are a bit floppy. The other slight problem is their hard drives are split into two partitions, both of which are FAT32 (thus you have to manually convert to NTFS)

Does that price include or exclude VAT ?

Yeah. I wondered why they did that. I`ll have to fix that oversight this xmas.

mmm. I`ve heard about that though I doubt my bro would use the touch pad for more than 5 mins before switching to a mouse. I canĀ“t see him draw in paint with a touchpad.
Thanks for the info guys.
