it will be a point to remember in the gaming industry if huds start to move to the keyboards built in lcd screen.

fps games with health and bullet ammo icons
racing games with lcd tachometers and rev meter horizontal progress bar meters etc..
flying games with alt / wind speed gps

This could improve screen fps if the hud icons for statistics are moved to the keyboards lcd, or it could create a nightmare for incompatible keyboards.
You really would have to program the hud icons for those whos keyboards are not lcd regardless.

direct x would have to have some sort of wrapper to enable access to the keyboards lcd screen.

sounds like fun but probably more work and lots of time before it becomes standard

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself 

Personally, I dislike the whole idea. So you could theoretically get a new set of keys for evrey different application? Now how confusing would that be, to memorize 164 different layouts as opposed to 1? Maybe im just missing something though...

Well, you could use the normal keyboard lay out.. they give you the option of changing the keys to suit your needs though.

Basically just gives you more options, that's how it seems to me atleast.

Do you really think gamers are going to want to take their eyes away from the game to see their score though? Looking down at your keyboard to check how many bullets are left in the clip leaves you running blind through the game, or even worse, you could miss that crucial sniper shot because you weren't watching the screen.

I'm not so sure it would work.

see the thing i like about the optimus is that the keys can actually animate so when im playin CS or BF2 i can animate the gernade key or for CS the defuse key!

or when im in Vue 5 or a html editor or a DBP editor i can map it to shortcuts ect i mean not every key has to be mapped on it so like OMFG! ima go nuts with the keyboard. Plus it would also be good for standard layouts =) i mean just look at it....if that page turned out to be a joke i'd shoot someone.

The thing i liek the most is the images on the keys.

Why would you need to remember so many shortcuts you'd simply program them into the keyboard and then when you opened up the application the keyboard would literally display the shortcut image on the key so no real remember just what the shortcut image looks like all you'd have to do is look down and say "oh there it is" and press the button simple you can forget about what the shortcut key is all you have to do is open the application. SIMPLE thats what i like about it.

But it will seem like i'll use my mouse less...But since it is designed for just about any program i'll be using it alot. Seeing as i have a crapload of programs i could use it with WEEEEEEEEEEE

Sorry i get a little over excited when i think bout it.

Well I mean, not many people enjoy having to look back at their keyboard for every button they press. It is much easier to just know where everything is by memory so you can go much faster.

Look around for other similar keyboards in development. They are all rubbish in comparison

Notice they say a similar price to a mobile phone. Hopefully they mean average contract price. eg. say £50-100. Not the top tech, uncontracted, just out today phones hopefully. eg. £300-500.

Cheers

Ps. There is a linking story about how it could clash with a patent (almost identical) from 1998 or so, and that could cock things up.

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

it's the same freaking layout, they just change what they keys look like. so when you open Photoshop, it changes all the letter keys to what your keyboard looks like to help you remember what COPY and UNDO are.
