Subject: STUDENT FINANCIAL GRANT
Reply | Reply to all | Forward | Print | Add sender to Contacts list | Report phishing | Show original
Hello,

I am Barrister James Anigbogu (SAN), the personal attorney to late Mr. Robert Price, a citizen of the United states of America who died in a ghastly car crash along Shagamu Expressway on the 21st of April this year, and who until his death worked for Julius Berger PLC. in Nigeria.

This letter is in accordance to a demand he made in his will before his death. My late client willed that 35% of the funds he had in deposit with a certain security company here in the country be disbursed as financial grant to Students in the USA.

To that effect, each of the beneficiaries will recieve a total sum of US$10,000 in form of a "Student Financial Grant"

I have taken it upon myself to fulfill this request by my late client
considering most especially the fact that he was both a friend and a client. Your school is one amongst three school i have selected through my search on the internet for schools with minimal financial funding schemes to students and prospective students.

This letter therefore is just a notification to you who happens to be one of the randomly selected students to benefit from this grant. You are hereby requested to get back to me as soon as possible if interested in this grant.

Thanks.

Regards,

Barr. James Anigbogu (SAN).

a real letter of that magnatude would have more contact details unless you removed them.

try www.snopes.com if you smell a scam,
or if you want to toy with them learn how at
http://www.419eater.com/

Use Yellow/White Pages to find telephone numbers and verify names and addresses.

A bit of snooping will tell you if its legit.

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself 

reply to it but the second they decide to say "you have to give us something" then don't do it remember GRANTS are free and do not need to be payed back. But since it was a yahoo e-mail account be a little suspecious as if it is legit then you'd think they'd have there own lawyer@mylawfirm.net or something liek that wouldnt you. A few weeks ago i got a scam letter in the mail i just threw it away. but it does say nigeria be careful it might be the nigeria scam thingy.

Try googling

Barrister James Anigbogu (SAN),
Mr. Robert Price
guyman investments, 2 waka, adamawa, AD 23401

also search yahoo members for....
barrj_anigbogu

But anyhow i tryed to go to yahoo.com but it won't let me on the site......=\ is it down or what not?

I just send my school financial aid office a copy to see if they have heard anything about it at all or can verify that it's false. I have also sent a response to the email to see what happens:

Quote: "Dear Mr. Anigbogu,

I am very thrilled to hear about such a decision for a substancial grant amount. I could very much use the grant money to pay my tuition as I am currently short funded. However, it does concern me of Mr Price's work in Nigeria. There have been many scam emails going around claming to give free money all originating from Nigeria. Could you please provide me with further details of how I can claim the award before I go any further. Thank you.

Sincerely

-djleys"

I figure best to just sign as "djleys" because he did not even use my name anywhere in the email, and there is no point in giving it to them if it's all a scam.

It's definately a scam. When I used Earthlink I got email like that all the time. Usually it's somebody that has died in another Country and amazingly they pick you to give money to. Usually the dollar value of their entire estate depositied directly into your bank account... all they need is your bank account number. Give it to them and i'm sure any money in that account will dissapear.

How can you not realise its a scam? Seriously, I don't know how anyone can even consider for a split second that this may be real. It's got "fake" written all over it. Stop wasting your time and just delete it.

Anyone as desperate as I can have the one second thought that it may not be fake. Maybe I just didn't want to believe anyone is this mean? Anyway, im still going to play it out all for fun, will give me something to do. Maybe I will ask for his account number for something first. Anyway, even if they DID have my bank account number, how could they get anything from it without id?

Quote: "Dear David,

Concidering your indication of interest in the Grant and request for more information on the grant, just like i pointed out in an earlier mail to you; you were selected randomly from your school student directory list. You will have to fill out an Application form though it will be provided to you by the Security Company on reception of your detail from me. The whole process should not last more than a period of one week all things being equal as this is a grant and not a loan. The funds have already been mapped out for it as it was willed by my late client.

The security company will immediately remit your funds to you after duely processng your application form which is simply a company policy for documentation purposes. I have also made available the following details for more clarification on myself as well as my late client. They can be view from my briefcase through this link: http://f2.pg.briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/barrj_anigbogu/lst?.dir=/My+Documents&.order=&.view=l&.src=bc&.done=http%3a//f2.pg.briefcase.yahoo.com/

(i) A copy of my International Passpost
(ii) A copy of my "Call to Bar" certificate.
(iii) A copy of my late client's "Will"
(iv) A copy of his Death Certificate.

On this note, i request that you present me with the following details from you as i will have to forward them to "Nicon Securities Inc." where the funds are being lodged in for due processing and remittance. They will get back to you with the Application form on receipt of your details.

To that effect, i will need you to present me with the following details:

(i) Full name
(ii) Private email address
(iii) Contact phone number
(iV) Nationality

You can contact me directly on this number +(234)-805-3312202 for further enquiries. Remember also that this is in no way a public offer but only to the randomly selected.

I await to read from you soon.

Regards,

Barr. James Anigbogu (SAN)."

I find it hard to belive they would randomly select students from your school without informing the head (or whoever handles these sorts of things) of your school, see what they have to say about it before you proceed any further.

Quote: "Dear Mr. Anigbogu,

I am very much looking foreward to your offer on this student financial grant and can't wait to get the process started. However, it does concern me that my school's financial department has not been informed on any such possible grants to students. Naturally, I would think a grant of this magnitude would be forewarded on to the school for legallity purposes.

However, I would still very much like to continue on with this transaction. What assurance could you provide me to prove this is a legit grant that I could recieve. My school term will be starting in a period of just four days and you have said that this transaction will take up to a week. There is no possibility of using the funds unless recieved by that time. Would it be possible to speed this process up a little bit? Thank you.

Sincerely,

David Leys"

Now to see what type of response I will get. Im guessing he will say he can speed things up just so I stay with him, but in reality, it is often very hard to speed up the processes of an outside company, in this case his "security" company. O well, maybe he will respond soon.

dude thats it i'd just stop now he will use your full real name. in the letter just watch if he picked you out randomly out of your schools listing then you know what. Why not use your full name in the first place?

Anyone who uses yahoo to post there "call to bar" BS now he has blown his whole cover...Just don't go any further they want your full name and e-mail ect if you give it to them it will show you are trusting them then they will simply ask for your bank account number.

But remember if they ask for your ban kaccount number do not give it to them just tell em your on to em. If they really owned there own security company wouldnt they have there own e-mail domain??

oh yeah e-mail yahoo with there username and the e-mails they sent you tell them he is scamming people using a yahoo account to help him...then they will hopefully ban his IP address from yahoo. That should slow him down but it is now obvious its a total scam.

Just an update:

Quote: "Dear David,

Like i made mention in my earlier email to you, this is a private grant arrising from the will of my late client and as such is being disbursed privately on that note to avoid the funds being taxed and as such reduced before being used for the original purpose which was the intentions of my late client before his death.

Talking about speeding up the process going by the fact that you will be resumming school in a short while, i can only advice you respond as fast as you can with every proceedure. I am sure you can cut down time that way. In the meantime, i will need you to provide me with the formerly requested details so i can forward them to the security company. They will contact you with the Application form as soon as they recieve your details.

Regards,

Barr. James Anigbogu (SAN)."

I had a very similar from a woman from the Ivory Coast asking me to go to Holland to transfer some money that her late father left her. Apparently her entire family was poisoned or killed in other unfortunate accidents. It was really bizzre but I led her on for a little while until I admitted that I knew it was a scam.

Well I already knew what type of scam it was, get many of these. Anyway, turns out the "security" comapany want me to sign some stuff and scan it in, etc... but since I already made a mistake and they have my full name, I will just leave this one be and cut communication. Maybe I will mess around with the next one.
