Well, for the game I'm working on, I want to use the Pirates of Carribian music. I want to know what the correct prosidures would be for going about getting the rights to using it.

Thanks,
Chris

I would personally say, just use it, and when you have the game finished or near finished, email/write the copyright owners. But right now the chances of you finishing it are not very big, and if you finish, the chances of making thousands are very slim.
So i would say, dont worry until you worry about giving the game out

And when it gets to the point of selling/giving out the software, music rights arnt cheap you would have to make lots of money off of the software.

probably wont get the rights, because you're giving out their song

but still, for right now just focus on getting your game done before you worry about that. You will need something to show. and this is Disney (i believe) that owns this song, and they probably wont even read a letter unless there's something that catches their eye.

You'd never get permissions to use it. There wouldn't be enough of an insentive for them to give it to you. I'd say just use it anyway if your software is freeware. They'd never sue, because (a) they'd probably never find out and (b) it'd cost them more in court fees than they'd make in damages!

That's not me condoning pirate music btw! Just how I think it'd play out.
