I know no ones probably interested in them anymore... except me... But has anyone successfully ran AmigaOS (Any version, from OS3.1 to OS3.9) on a power pc processor?

I want to try and build my own Amiga system... Does anyone know how much this could cost?

Maybe I should look for some Amiga forums... Also I wouldnt mind trying to convert the ancient Amiga 1200 to a case layout... If anyones done this please post too... Or if you just interested in amiga's...

Anyway Thanks

All the OS revisions bellow OS4.0 (like OS3.1, OS3.9 ) are 680x0 native.

I was very interested in Amigas up until last week when I finally sold my beloved Amiga 1200 system on eBay which I had owned for 12 years. I'm moving house next week and decided it was time to part company.

Got princly sum of £78 which is a bargain considering I also chucked in hard drive, cd drive, monitor, external floppy drives, joystick, games, extra ram, etc - orginally cost me over £1500

You can still view my listing on eBay if you wanna see what I sold!

Total and utter bollocks.
AmigaOS 3.4-3.9 are capable of using PowerPC as your main processor.
Technically you still need a 68K as the base processor, however the Amiga Alpha uses an adapted BIOS that makes use of the special features found in PPC Processors. (most of the time the Apple G4-Series are used)

Do a quick web-search and you'll find quite a few places that still sell new parts and machines. Though don't expect any sort of real after-sale support.

Hyperion is a good OS Bridge that allows you to run AmigaOS on AMD Athlon processors.

Bravo, another round of incoherent nonsense.

Sigh, Before OS4.0 there is no native PPC port of Amiga OS's exec (you know. erm the kernel).

OS4.0 is the native PPC edition.

While there have been dual 680x0 + PPC accelerators for years (almost ten), and as such there are various (cough) PPC native libraries, demos, games and even app's that utilize the second processor. The OS is not native ppc. The 68k is very much in control.

Amiga Alpha project was based on the Dec Alpha chip, not a PPC .. Try... AmigaOne.

If only you'd take your own advice.

erm, what are you smoking ?... Amiga Anywhere ( i.e Amiga DE the TAOS based multi platform Amiga environment) is <> to Amiga OS4.0

Or perhaps, you'll claim your apparently thinking of Amiga OS XL / Amithlon (an optimized Amiga emulator) or even possibly AROS (an open source project who's objective is to create a API compatible version of AmigaOS).

Hyperion are the licensed Amiga Inc producers of Amiga OS4.0 for the AmigaOne (PPC). OS3.1 to 3.9 were produced by Haage and partner (68k)..

Cool, Sorry I didnt reply earlier... I bashed the sole of my foot and I had to go to A + E, Its now in a bandage type thing, LOL, More excuses for sitting infont of the PC!

And yes Raven your right, The newer Amiga OS's can run on PPC's, A company called AmigaOne sell motherboards and processors for this... Im currently looking over information at http://amiga.org

Also theres AmigaKit, But they dont sell the PowerPC boards , So its either a case of buying one of these PowerPC boards and processors, or Converting the old 1200 to a tower layout with hard drive and CD-Rom, Hopefully I would also install an accelerator so it would run at 50Mhz with about 64/128mb RAM, (Yes amiga uses a lot less CPU power to ram ratio...)

Ill try and post information if I actually build anything.

PS: My dad says I can convert the 1200 to a tower too lol, he says its worth nowt anyway, which is probably true!

Oh, Maybe UW Design is right...

Anyone: If I build a PowerPC system, How can I get hold of a copy of OS4?

Seeing as it hasnt even been released yet!

And thanks for the help everyone, I though no one cared about old stuff like this except me LOL.

EDIT: The PowerPC route is an expensive one... http://www.eyetech.co.uk/search.php?SearchStr=&SearchCat=AMA1

What are the current minimum specs for OS4? Could I run it on a modified 1200?

EDIT2: Also heres the list of Accelerators for the Amiga:

@uwdesign ... you have been a member of this forum longer than I have so surely you should know not to waist you (breath) fingers on a reply to one of Ravens posts!

Everyone that has been on this forum for more than 3 minutes knows that everything Raven says is complete bollocks. Why He does it, I don't know, Maybe some inferiority complex that he has to account for, I honestly don't know, but everytime he posts something he says it with utter conviction which make noobs think he knows what he is talking about but the rest of us just shake our heads.
