They're exams you take at 16. You then take A levels at 18. Universities look at A levels and to an extent gcses when deciding whethger to give you a place.

Wow, your all so young

I remember at the time I did GCSE's though, they were pretty tough as they are the first big exams you have to take, maybe the last if you don't go to college .

Good luck everyone!

I made an electronic people counter. Two units with an IR beam that lit up 1/10 LEDs once ten people had passed through the beam.

(It didn't work - but I got 92/101)

I sat the very first GCSE exam ever...Geography. (1988 I think it was)

The very first question on the very first paper was impossible to answer. It asked what the feature was at a particular grid reference. The Grid reference didn't exist on the map provided, they had got the coordinates back to front

Luckily, I left the question straight away and carried on. But some people spiralled into panic, it was around 40 minutes before they announced that everyone should ignore the question.

Good Luck y'all.

The answer is always "masts".

We had one like that this year. Asked what were the co-ordinates of Reading station. It was barely visible.

Only two other dodgy questions.

Biology: It showed a graph with a wavy line going up and down (amount of air in lungs). It asked you to count the number of breathes taken. There were 4 equally possible answers, depending on how you counted.

Music: What is a 'raga'. Only problem is, it is two things. A tuning system OR a type of piece.

If you swapped the coordinates over, it was actually a church. It has stood me in good stead, I can now find churches wherever I travel, an essential life-skill

Considering the importance of these papers, I really don't think some exam boards make enough effort to check them. On my A2 Electronics paper, there was a circuit diagram where all the resistor values were given in volts!

On the science double award this year (I did the triple award, thankfully our paper was error free) they mixed up the names of some chemicals - I can't remember what exactly but it was a pretty big screw up!

On a similar note, French listening this year had no staples. It was multi page, but had no staples. I suppose it must be some kind of glue. Clever.

I got 8 A*s and 2 As. Both As were achingly close to an A*. Hopefully a remark will do something.
