Hi, all.

Today, I read an article on WinCustomize.com that said that there were still some Windows 95 fans out there. I used Windows 95 until August 11, 2003, when I got XP on a new Dell.

I did like Windows 95, but I did abuse my system. So, I would like to know:

1. Are you a Windows 95 fan?
2. If so, do you use one?
3. If so, do you abuse it? If not, did you have one?
4. If you did have one, did you abuse it?

See you there!

Oh and by the way, below is the counter:

0 said yes to 1 and 2
0 said yes to 1, 2, and 3
0 said yes to 1, 2, and 4
0 said yes to all four

How does one become a fan of 95, and indeed abuse it?

I use it on a works machine because this thing has umpteen com ports and a real tricky install - not the sort of system that's easily upgraded or replaced. Not sure I'd say I was a fan, but I always appreciate improvements, so if we go by the most improved OS, 95 is right up there, I mean the only contender would be XP - from 3.1 to 95 is a long way compared to 95 to 98 to ME.

ME is the worlds worst OS, I always feel sorry for people with that installed, I often offer to get rid of ME for free, it's like charity work IMO.

95 was awesome and i knew it like the movie Black Hawk Down(i've seen it around 20 times i believe, a true cinamatic masterpiece). I used it from '99(i know, this is when i started using computers, because of internet), until '02 when i upgraded to '98, Then in '03 i bought the peice of crap that is my computer for $300. Thats the history of my computers.

well...i like XP better...but that's probably because i associate slow computers with 95...because that's the only type of computer i've used it on

98se is like a nicer more stable version of 95, WHEN its full updated and optimised. As a standard install 95b is cleaner. I would avoid ME like the plague, and use 98se / 2000 (pretty good ) for online stuff and XP for everything else. My tupence anyway.

PS If you can get your hands on the coorporate edition of XP (not pro) that is a LOT easier to update fully before going online, and is therefore the fastest and safest os I've used. But unless you know someone with a copy (unlimited liscenes and no need to activate) its bl**dy expensive!

What I mean about "abusing" is like "you're so new to the features that you use them wrongly and end up damaging your computer and have to live with it because you just can't fix it without losing your data, although the system was new then and could do more than 3.1 with many new features, and don't forget the included Office 95 which I have eliminated by accident" abuse.

What's wrong with ME? I'm not asking that defensively, but out of curiosity.

ahhh "abusing" lol well yes 95 it was easier to kill your pc than with XP, microsoft have made each version of their software make it harder to accidentally screw things up... although I find this a bit nannying. I used to prefer MS-DOS 6.22 myself where I had full control over everything

To paraphrase:
Win ME "Everybody Hates Me"
Mr Macky "Why do you suppose that is?"
Win ME "Because I'm the Son of the Devil"
Mr Macky "Mmmkay thats a good start, why else?"

Hehe, I've never had a server that's lasted as long as this old 95 machine here, and it's running an entire WIP system for a microchip factory all day every day.

I think that if left alone, 95 is real stable - it's memory handling when switching between applications that's the killer. It was always a nightmare to get drivers for 95, so I hated reinstalling it. 98se is a great OS and is much quicker to install, but in my case it's not worth the risk of loosing this machine - it'll be in use until I program it's replacement system, which could be years .

And what happens if, say, your JavaScript drivers suddenly gets lost, and your forum users just can't post anymore. This post has a good history on its side, but Windows 95 may be the reason why that when you change your profile, the profile data from all of your past posts remain the same way.

Me = 98+A load of useless extras

The only real reason for Me was marketing. Redmound makes the bulk of its $$$ by releasing a new platform every 5 years. I assume XP was taking longer than usual, so they whipped up Me in between to keep the punters happy

Those poor people were conned out of their hard-earned cash, mainly because they believed they were buying an entirely new OS. But all they got was 98 with a pretty dress.

I think I'll wait until the English translation of the Questions is released. Cause honestly I don't have a clue what anything other than Question 1 means.

I like Windows 95b and 95c. Very Stable, Very Fast!
Windows 98 crashed when I tried to install it, so I've sworn off of it like forever.

Honestly, I've never understood this whole hatred people have for Windows ME. I used it for absolutely ages, with Windows 2000 on a dual-boot.

Never really had any issues with Windows Millennium; as I've come to understand it my computer was like the only one in the world that didn't crash like every few hours. Mine would be perfectly fine unless I was installing drivers; then unless they were WDM it'd get a bit iffy. I thought it was cool I could use the same drivers for Windows 2000 and Millennium.

Or maybe that's why mine was more stable than the retards trying to install thier 98 drivers. : shrugs :

well whatever the reason I would rate Windows Millennium higher than anything except Windows XP Professional. XP Home crashed... constantly on me. The only Windows that has ever actually been stable to the point where I've forgotten it actually has a BSOD has been XP Professional.

95 isn't all that bad, although I like xp pro, because it has better features..

I would still use 95, but I would never degrade to it.

The only bad thing about Windows 95 is it won't work with USB. 98SE is much better (because it can). Windows ME is a timebomb waiting to go off. Everytime I get a call to fix a computer that has ME on it... I get the call only because the computers have completely crashed and have to be reformated. XP is the best.

Codewise ME is very similar to 98se. Trouble is its very bloated just for the sake of adding a few unecessary features, most of which seem to constantly crash the pc and be unfinihsed. That said its perfectly possible to turn off all the uneccessary features and have it running almost as well as a proper 98 install, but it'll still be a much LARGER install, and require more ram

Oh and PS Raven, yes I used the first install version of 98 and it was appalling on first install. However the latest versions of 98se fix all those problems, and its great to use, just like ME but much faster and smaller

OK, I will just re-phrase my questions and start over.

1. Are you a fan of Windows 95?
2. Do you have a Windows 95 now?
3. Did you ever have a Windows 95, if you answered NO to question 2?
4. If you answered YES to either question 2 or 3, have you damaged or misused some part of the system?

My answers:
1. no
2. no
3. yes
4. yes

The counter:
0 said yes to 1
0 said yes to 1 and 2
0 said yes to 1 and 3
0 said yes to 1, 2, and 4
0 said yes to 1, 3, and 4
0 said yes to 2
0 said yes to 2 and 4
0 said yes to 3
1 said yes to 3 and 4
