As part of my multiplayer tutorials, I'm writing a little chat server in DB Classic.

It's working on my network, but I need to know if it works over the internet - something I can't test myself.

Anyone willing to give it a go if I upload it please?

It's not very polished yet and isn't fully functional, but I'm only interested to see if anyone can connect on and talk to someone else.

Hey TDK, yes I am willing to give it a shot, I know that my computer can understand and connect to TCP ports so pass over whatever you want to test out.

OK, all set up and ready to test. Don't know if it will work, so we can only try!

http://www.computechtenerife.com/dbnetchat.rar (500K).

Just download, unzip, run and keep your fingers crossed.

If it does work, it's very basic, so don't be mad if it goes wrong.

I'll just be happy if I can see someone log on... and even happier if I can see chatting going on!

Damn!

Do me a favour please. Open a DOS window and type:

Ping dbhost.servegame.com and then press return.

Does it return an IP address?

dbhost.servegame.com, just that? don't want me to replace anything else?

Well if that's what you wanted, I got like, this:

81.38.247.187: bytes=32 time=158ms TTL=241

OK great thanks - that means the dns is resolving the IP address.

It also means that the problem is at this end - not with the client...

Give me a few minutes to look into this...
