I need some sort of idea of what you want to do first - I'm sure this goes for everyone else as well...

also, be a little more patient between posts...

also, if this is your first game like you say -- then no simple really isn't an option - my first game was 'no simple' and 15 months on I've still done hardly anything... always start simple, take it from me

...maybe one day I'll finish a project

Um... You have no idea how many times you could get flamed for asking this, and i'm not sure why a mod hansn't locked this yet.


First. Even the best programmers could NEVER!!!!!! make a rpg. It is so complicated and complex it isn't even funny. Make pong, or a pong clone, there's a good post at the top of this forum that teaches you to make pong. Then move onto breakout, and a pacman maybe.

RPG's are way outthere in the 100s on the game making list.

Dude, if you want to make an RPG go ahead, we'll help as much as we can, but, it its going to be your game you should start it first. When you've started, just program from what you know and if your run into problems (with an RPG you probably will), just come back to this thread and repost. Just stick with it and try your hardest and don't let others talk you out of what you want to do.

Yes, yes, RPG's are hard to make, they're complex and long and very challenging. So, just keep with it and try to get some movement and basic levels in and we'll be able to help ...wow I sounded like my mom there

Team requests aren't actually encouraged here any more - there was too many flames. However, you can post Work In Progress shots and details when you have enough information. I believe someone started up an unofficial Team Requests page that's not directly related to this one - you maybe could try that when youre ready.

When the game is running, press the Print Screen button. Quit the game and run a paint program then press Ctrl-V to paste the image you just captured.

Resize it to 640x480 and save it as a JPG before posting it though - keeps loading times down for users without broadband.

Do NOT post BMP files!

See on your keyboard? It's normally to the right of the F keys. I.e.

...F10, F11, F12, Print Screen, Scroll Lock, Pause.

Just look around the area above the arrow keys and you should find it.

press it, then it takes a screenshot, then as TDK said, put it into paint and press ctrl+V to paste it

hmmm, I wouldn't say that even the best would "never" be able to make an rpg, they're just very hard to make, even for more experinced people, but a bit too hard for newcomers

ok, youve pressed print screen, but you wont see anything happening, but now, go to start>programs>accesories>paint, then press Control+V, or edit>paste, hey presto, you have a screenshot

There are also program that take many screenshots so that you don't have to restart the game every time you want a new shot. For example, if you check CodeBase I have some code that'll help that I created just for this

lol, what a topic!!!
Anyways... an RPG is not that difficult ... to a person that can gather all the ideias. You gona need not a pc but lot of paper and a pencil. Turn off da PC to save energy and some $$$.
Get a place to work and start to write all the ideias for da game. But it must be ALL the ideas, even if you plan to to put a fly on the screen. After this task (it could take weeks or months) you can finelly organize all the papers and write the development document.
Why it is necessary? because it contains all the information about the game. Metal Gear Solid 2 had a 300 pages development document and it looks like my C++ book! but normally you don't reach that^^.

After all this, you can start to make the game. If you don't do this you'll waste time thinking "what i'm going to work today?" or "what i'm gona do next?"
That's mistakes that i normally do ^^ so learn now and don't do mistakes then.

If you don't have any idea how to make an RPG install RPG Maker XP on your pc. Make a simple game or download it and see how it's structure.

Good luck, impossible is nothing
