As im sure youve all heard, recently a hurricane struck Mississippi and Louisiana, Quite damaging that coastal region. It is now said that deaths are numbering past the hundreds, maybee thousands. People are now evacuating New Orleans, as it is now mandatory, and all power, water, and other utilites have been shut off to the region.

As my grandpa lives in bay st lois, a town that has been reported to be up to 12 ft underwater, i take this recovery quite personoly. Its been reported that the water in several ares litterly seeped into atticks, where refugees from rising waters seeked haven, but in the end litterly giving them no escape and no optinon but to sit there and drown.

And if things seem horrible yet, even something thats already a very sensitive issue, gas prices, are being effected. Today i noticed gas lines backing up traffic from upto half a mile. Prices are expected to go to 4 dollars, maybee more. Even with reserves being used, this contries infastructure has taken quite a hit. However generous countries such as england and germany, as far as ive heard, have offered help for this disaster.

Also, please, I beg of you, do NOT turn this into a political debate, as i can see this going into that direction somehow, ill keep my conservitive loud mouth comments out of this, please do the same.

If you're so smart, why are you reading my post?

aussies do have a kinship with americans and we feel for those affected by the hurricane, i cant speak for everyone but i think its the smallest thing we can do to consider the weight of the devestation, this apparantly is the largest storm in 30 years.
my thoughts are with the people affected by this natural tragedy.

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself 

Yeah, there are thousands homeless now, many fleeing to where I live in fact, where we have 2 shelters and are preparing a third. My thoughts and prayers are with those involved.

They don't expect new orleans water to stop rising anytime soon as its under sea level and all or atleast parts of it are.

one more thing, I really have no pity for those looters. I saw on the news what they were grabbing. Toys and other junk. They don't need that to survive!

Hell of a natural disaster. Very disturbing what happened to the people who were there when the hurricane hit, and the hundreds of thousands who have lost their homes... the predictions about this knocking the already unstable global economy over the brink are worrying as well, although they're probably bunk...

If I looking for blog

I found it disgusting today when I saw a news site showing pictures of people in the water with sacks of stuff.

The black people were described as 'looters'
The whote people were described as 'finders'

What a load of garbage. They're all looters! And in their place, if it meant getting bread that was going to go off anyway - I'd do the same.

But I hate the racisim involved. Hate it hate it hate it.

There's a difference between taking your stuff out with you and breaking into stores and stealing property whether you just want it or are planning to sell it. The latter is bad.

I don't personally know anyone from New Orleans, seeing this on the news and stuff is a little wrench to the gut though. I hope the recovery efforts are expeditious.

I saw that too, they described the two different scenes word for word, except 'looters' was replaced with 'finders' for the white folk. Stupid crackers.

I think everyone down there is pretty desperate. The situation is getting worse. According to the news more people are toting guns. Someone shot at the helicopters that were trying to save them. What in the world is going on down there!

Here in flordia gas lines are out to the streets, if there is any gas left. Prices have been shooting up, looking as if well have $4 to sheel out for gas by weeks end. Could this be the brink of the second great depression?

If you're so smart, why are you reading my post?

Very bad indeed. Also, many migrated to where I live too (Possibly the same place a Gil perhaps?), and it jumped from about 150,000 people to roughly three times that. A cop was shot in the head with a looted firearm in New Orleans, and the death toll is said to be at least a thousand. And a $16 million experimental deep-ocean oil rig went completely missing.
And might be two more hurricanes brewing.

America is stupid.....they say they dont want to import foreign oil but when there has to be a oil rig or something built they protest against it....so how the hell are we supposed to get it? I say take over the middle east....jackup the prices and sell to other peeps in the world or find some other energy sourcee...

I've been following this story on the news all day and it is much much worse than I imagined when I read about it online. The one thing I don't understand is why there were gun shots fired at a rescue helicopter, that just seems a bit wierd to me...

I heard someone shot a cop in the leg, then when the helicopter came down to help the cop, they then shot at it too (prob thought it was coming to shoot them I guess).

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing
